My Gear Box Problem

my car currently in the workshop.. the problem is... when the gearbox wanna change from gear one to two...it takes quit long...some sort like u drive manual...and change to gear 2 after 10 second...quit long for me...than..jerk a bit...just change gearbox oil...but the problem still the same...my mechanic suggest me to change gearbox...there is another car in the workshop...engine pecah already after hit the pothole water...waiting for halfcut to come...and wait for engine.so owner wanna let go existing gearbox to me for 1.8k...what do u guyz think?
 
ermm...dissapointed already....someone went to the shop when my mechanic not around...and took it for 2300..the workshop owner letgo...now have to find other...still interested to refurbished the existing gearbox if anybody got recommended shop

What Model are u driving? 318i, 320i, 325i or 328?

I have one unit for 318I.

my opinion is... keep using the gearbox .. until it kaw kaw damage... then baru tukar lah..

u change gear box oil only or with the filter too?
 
bro,just overhaul it...overhaul kit cost around rm800++...labour you need to ask your mechanic...
 
Overhaul probably better, at least you know the exact condition of everything inside. If you get another used gearbox, you'd have no idea how long before that one might KO too. I hear MScope @ Batu Caves are quite the gearbox specialists.

where to get? can get it at munich/bavarian?
 
go to an experienced m50/m52/m54 mechanic that has done overhauling of gearboxes, ask around, i'm sure there is one near your place

from your description it seems the valve body servos are malfunctioning, other possiblities as this is a whole system could be the sensors, ECU, or even a simple thing like electrical joints corrosion can upset the system

if you want to confirm the servos, then do a gb oil change 3 times within a 500km interval, if problem persist, you may have a burnt servo ,hence an overhaul or valve body change

bro..is that what u stated above is related to gearbox? like valve body servo

valve body is in the gearbox... it's an actuator which changed the gear..
 
i've talk to the mechanic..he willing to sell to me the gb..but then noticed that the gbox is 4 gear....noticed that i'm using 5 gear jetco..so he offer me 1.5k including installation for jetco gb...
 
u mean your car running with 5 speed Jatco???
then can't overhaul... it a disposable gearbox. use and throw away....
 
yeah,,,noticed that....PAKAI BUANG.....emm..no budget for ZF conversion...coz need more money to spend..

btw...4 gm4 sell for 2.2k including installation..good condition gb confirm by the mechanic..milleage of the engine is 100k to 120k...

i hear the GM 4 speed is also used by some jap models, maybe perdana, not too sure about this

btw, you will need to use whatever GB make that urs comes with, unless the ECU, wirings and possibly some sensors are changed

if you are changing from 5 speed GB to 4 speed, make sure the longshaft is changed to the one that come off the 4 speed, i believe the 4 sp ones are longer and do keep the 5 speed longshaft or sell to me, i wouldn't mine getting the 5 sp shaft as spare part
