My E36 , need help with gear knob

Hi Sifus !

Firstly I am a total newbie to cars mods and also repairs or maintaining. Dont even know my engine type.. maybe is m40 ? Its 4 speed .
Do help me and guide me !






Can someone tell me where can I change this knob to more nicer auto bmw gear knob ?



Just a stupid question,

Can I do something such as this ?

Just buy a knob that you like and swap it. It think it screws off.

Not that easy bro... There's an allen key screw in front of the knob. Pull your handbrake, make sure your car won't move and pull the knob all the way down to "1" and you'll see it there. Unscrew it and pull the knob upwards.

From the picture, it's a T-shaped knob (pre-96 models). You can change to other T-shaped knobs which are available in the market. They've got many designs, M logo, BMW logo, kayu design, brushed aluminium design etc. Bear in mind, they're all T-shaped like the existing one. Check mudah.my or ebay.com

By doing so, then only you can change to the canggih looking one you posted. I found a few in ebay, got M logo also.

Thank you Tom & crusher , very comprehensive guide but still I dont dare to DIY such delicate thing.. I scared i will damage the gear. I have zero experience on cars. Later kaput i cannot afford to fix. haha
