Well there is no overheat no nothing...everything is normal but suddenly the engine stop running while stationery then i gotta start again. Very weird, a new thing that i encounter so far driving.

hmmm....was it a hot day?
Was you idling irregular?

Btw, what model are you driving?
m20? m40?

yalor bro,

what model are u driving wor ???

in what condition engine dies off ? when applying brake pedal to stationary ???

i suggest u first check ur alternator.... had my experience... engine dies off at times while going to stop....

Was stationery,no brake no nothing. Not a hot day, idling is not very regular though. Mine is a m40.

was the idling fluctuating before the engine died off?? could be idle control valve or the air flow meter....

Clean the 2 items n see if it solve the problem...

Okay..thanks for the hint, but so far it only happen once. Btw, whats air flow meter?

Sorry, yes it does fluctuates a bit i think. Not too sure as i am no pro to this car and in fact still very new to it. Thanks Fabian.

bro can it still crank when you try to start? check your battery connections..sometimes the simplest things could happen and it could have come loose.. :D

if fluctuate, check the AFM. The AFM is the Air Flow Meter. It the black squarish thing that is connected after the air filter.

However, check also the vacuum hose. As this is the most likely cause. If it the AFM, the idling speed is eractic but seldom cause the engine to stall. A leak in the vacuum will cause your engine to stall.

Could it be your fuel pump??

i know that's what happened to my cuz's e30. he hasn't had the time to change it, but for now, he doesn't fully close his petrol cap. he just turns it enuf to keep it fastened. This way it's not airlocked, hence allowing more 'breathing space' for your fuel pump because less pressure in the tank. this causes less stress on the fuel pump.

also, he keeps his fuel levels at not less than half tank each time to also cause less stress, so that it doesn't have to work harder on pumping the fuel.

dunno if this is true, but that's what the mech said. :dunno:

try and see.

process of elimination? :dunno: :D

hmmm... seems like we are having a lot of idling problem with the e30... mine dies sometimes when i am slowing down.

oops crankshaft i mean not cam shaft.
Unstable idle yep check the ICV and air flow sensor. Go for the ICV 1st,clean them up 1st. check the ball swings inside.

Thanks all for your advice. Will look into it. Am still driving around, nothing has been done but no dead so far. Need to send them in once i got the time.

Elwine, thanks for your help you are so kind.
