The programming is a must when your CCC's version is v35 (or was it v33?) or less. Your iDrive screen should be brownish instead of silverish. Those E60 year 03-05 normally falls into that category. Therefore there will be no "Aux In" - Now your interface need the Aux In in order to have direct sound thru speakers. Those without Aux in can still add interface but the sound will be channeled thru radio frequency instead - possible interference & distortion.
Most BMW specialist can do the software update but no guarantee they won't fry ur CCC (japan spec). I took the risk & ended up happy man. Max price is slightly more than 1k if you do that thru AB or Ingress.
Once u add the interface & DVD player.. There will be an extra button that they will install near your steering area in which you have to push to change the screen to watch DVD or GPS.
I should have taken a picture earlier.. Anyway will try to post the pic next week.

P.S: bro affan :D I saw you on Federal Highway near Sunway bridge earlier today. I was driving a white landcruiser so you probably didn't notice me :D

Hey man,

You said you took the risk in software update. But did it make your Jap-based CCC software into UK/MY? For instance, what has changed in your Navigation and Communication menus after the update?

My ride has the brownish i-drive with AUX-in, so I hooked in the interface and DVD player. Now I'm thinking of fully updating/converting just for BMW's Ipod integration but I'm not entirely sure if the software update alone would achieve it.

I changed my entire CCC (from Jap spec) and added in a DVD player. If you don't want to change your CCC (assuming you are Jap spec), you first have to check if your CCC has the AUX module. If not, have to upgrade first. But firstly, check if you already have SatNav (means 8" screen). If you're on the 6" screen....then very costly lo....

Bro Alxy,
What's the damages look like to changed entirely CCC (from Jap's)? Is there any other way I can do to get my Navi system working here?

bro owen,
Sadly I have to say No! The upgrade was not to convert Japan spec CCC to MYS/UK. The only thing that changed was the additional "Aux In" in my Entertainment menu. You can't really do anything with the Navigation or Communication menu (as far as I concerned) as CCC is different for Japan & UK/MYS. However, the software upgrade is actually for all the modules in the car and not only limited to the iDrive's CCC only. From what I have known, after software upgrades, your car is supposed to be more responsive (improvement in overall ride) and more efficient.
My purpose to upgrade was to listen to MP3 & DVD (through aftermarket player - Kenwood in my case) which is connected through my iDrive through Aux In - otherwise the sound will be channeled through radio frequency. I'm not really that knowledgeable as I only read and learn from what other forumers wrote in this forum. What I know, I have already written in this thread.
If you are thinking of integrating iPod into your ride, there's another alternative called Dension... i know someone who can actually do it so do PM me if you are interested ok? :top:

P.S: Do the software upgrade & most probably you will notice improvement when you drive your JOY :D

Hello Friends.
I was at the Audio Specialists shop in Seremban and was checking out for the BMW IDrive Interface and was informed that is cost about RM 2000 ++
Back home I was browsing several sites to check out the pricing of this Interface and fund in following site http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=57&cat=16&page=1 that it costs only 156.52 Pounds - converted to RM 765.996.

Even if I add for the shipping costs it won't be more than RM 1000.00, what a saving!!!

Please do not believe what the 'Audio Expert's' all the time...

Cheers.

yes, it is cheap overseas, especially if you order direct from China. But wait til you put in the installation charges. If you don't mind tinkering on your own, go ahead. I would rather get someone do it or I get a screwed up i-drive, which is very very expensive to change. I don't know of anyone who can fix an i-drive too.

you also need someone to programme your CCC. Unless you have access to the computer systems, I wouldn't even touch this on my own.

btw, please introduce yourself in the newbie section. thanks.

Local CCC should cost around RM4K+ now. No other way to get your SatNav working as per BMW original. However, if you already have the AUX-IN, then you can add your DVD player + Garmin GPS inside. So you won't be seeing the GPS as BMW intends you to (i.e. through the right-hand side Navigation menu on the iDrive main menu), but might not be such a bad thing. Garmin maps are much MUCH better than BMW's. I have the latest 2010 BMW map but a lot of places still don't appear on it :(
