Methanol / Water Injection (boost cooler)

dear sifus please share your experience & recommendation for this type of mod. i think it would help in performance as our weather is so hot turbo/supercharged engines should especially benefit from the reduced temperature. main concern is on safety & expected performance gain. also can we use industrial grade methanol cause its really cheap at only about RM1.80/litre vs RM30/litre they sell in shops. another concern is installation in a supercharged engine, wouldn't the compressor turn the water mist into water? mine is lysholm type mounted on the engine so cant think of a way to inject the methanol in after the supercharger.have been seeing a few ads by Snow Performance / Works Engineering on Hypertune mag http://www.snowperformance.net/
 
ess.....it would help, and i believe its a very fine mist which will help to cool the IAT. shouldn't turn into water when its in the s/c. i guess it also depends on the nozzle you use. not sure about methanol, but should work on the same principle. seems to works pretty well to help cool things down, onyl thing is the additional plumbing required.

Just to share some info, i was doing some reading on the water injection system and they did mention that the water injectors should be mounted after the turbine. apparently the fine water mist can cause errosion to the blades because of the speed it is spinning and the water hitting the blades.

I have tried using water to clean the inside of my engine and it works well. i just slowly let the water get sucked in to the engine while the car idles at 2000RPM and gave it a good rev and u can actually see the carbon getting shot out of the exhaust. once it was done u can just feel the low end torque increase and the car is somuch more responsive. I will be planing to design my own system next soon for the sake of experimenting.

Erosion is due to the cavitation effect not because of the speed of water hitting the blades.
This is due to localized boil off of water droplets into superheated state on the impellar. You will get pitting corrosion. Don't mislead.

Sorry but I don't think i am misleading because the article here which i had read previously said that is it caused of the water hitting the fast moving the blades.



Spray Location

As described above, this system injects water in front of the air filter, at the engine intake. As far as we know, no other water injection system attempts to do this. So why do we?

Firstly, one of the problems of before-turbo water injection is potential erosion of the compressor blades by the impingement of drops of water. When the turbo is spinning fast, such impacts have the potential to strip tiny fragments of metal off the blades, over time pitting it. Whether this actually occurs or not is open to question – but it is a valid question. Therefore, if injecting the water pre-turbo, it makes sense to keep the water droplet size to an absolute minimum.

You were describing the results/effects of water droplets hitting the blades. What I was describing was why it can/ is happening.
 
Why going through so much trouble ?
Just increase the octane in your fuel, and you are done.
Simple, effective, and safe.
 
- To decrease heat soak from heat generated during operation of turbo/sc.

- To decrease unwanted level of knocking/detonation
 
Here is another trick :
1. Add some alcohol into your windscreen fluid (those cleaner contain alcohol anyway)
2. route one your nozzle tube to your intercooler.
3. When you get heat soak, spray your windshield ! (and it spray your intercooler too)
4. It clean your windshield at the same time !!
5. Heat Soak GONE & clear view. Now you are ready to boost :D :D
