Being relatively new to Malaysia Im still learning the procedure for many things, just yesterday I fell into my latest pothole regarding MY road tax....For the past 18 months Ive been happily renewing my road tax via MYeg.com, everything runs sweet, no problem. But yesterday I took my registration details to the garage to have some accident damage fixed (some guy kindly decided to smash into me), but the garage said I hadnt updated the back of my pink registration card and that I need to do this.So my question is, even though I bought road tax online do I still need to go to the postoffice or JPJ to get my registration updated? If so then what is the point of buying road tax online?Could someone help me pls... :hmmmm2:

the truthful answer is YES!

this is a malaysian thing.we do all at the last minute....road tax renewal, insurance, income tax,summons.......... u name it!so this is to ease the last minute rush of having to go and q at the jpj or post office.so there............

wecome to malaysia......

Thats a good question actually.

However having sold 4 cars personally, no one has ever checked the road tax stamping on the reg card because the road tax disc would be on the car anyways.

I resent the remark that it is a "Malaysian thing".

The real truth of the matter is that the rules here are the same rules that are in force in many countries of the world.

There a 3 separate things that is relevant here.

1. Ownership - This is the registration card. The legal owner of the car is the one shown on the registration card.

2. Roadtax - A car must have a road tax disc in order for it to be used on the road. It is renewed yearly or shorter. it can be done anywhere i.e. Post Office, Online etc. The requirement during renewal is that there must be Insurance Cover (in the name of the legal owner) and the presentation of the registration card.

3. Insurance Cover - A car must have insurance coverage when being used on the road.

The answer to your question is that there is NO relationship between the roadtax renewal and legal ownership of the car. Renewing the road tax does not change the legal ownership of the car.

Although you can still renew your road tax, the legal owner of the car is not you. You can continue to use the car with the understanding that you use it with permission of the legal owner. If you are indeed the owner of the car I do suggest that you have the ownership changed. This will require the signature of the current legal owner on the form for Tukar Hakmilik at the JpJ, to avoid such complications.

The insurance Cover shall also always be in the name of the legal owner i.e. The name that appears on the registration card. You an drive the car either as a named driver or the cover is for all driver.

During road tax renewal, you need to buy insurance cover in the name of the legal owner. If you are renewing thru traditional means, then you presnt teh registration card and the counter will check this againt the cover note which is online. If you are renewing is online, then no registration card is required. So you can continue renewing your roadtax without a registration card.

In any case, you should not have any problems in the insurance claim because if the payment is made by the Insurance company direct to the workshop or in the name of the insured. You have go make a deal with the insured.

A Malaysian thing eh.

US - Bill of Sale and notarized Title needs to be sent to the DMV for a name change to be affected.

UK - Duly notatized form V5 must be sent to the DVLA for the ownership to be changed.

Australia - Form MR9 signed by both parties needs to be sent in for the ownership to be changed.

Renew at MYEG have the receipt to print out, should keep that and anything happen can prove you paid online !!

All roadtax printed by MYEG got their code to deferent from JPJ branch & pos. You can always show to MYEG the roadtax that you get it from them.
Yes, all claims need the updated registration card.
If you previously get the roadtax from MYEG via online & now you wanna update your registration card, you must return to MYEG only to update the card either via KIOSK or counter. Remember ONLY MYEG branch or KIOSK, no JPJ branh or POS Malaysia can update.
If you get roadtax from MYEG for 2009 & 2010, then you decided to sell your car this year. You also need to update the registration card with MYEG before doing ownership transfer, unless the car dealer help you to.
For me, I will use MYEG to pay summons earlier b4 roadtax expire, then to POS office to do roadtax & update the registration card together.

its a problem when you bought your car cash or done paying the installment because usually they will collect the pink slip "grant" at bank before they print out the roadtax and pos to you..
