Hi all UDM's guru,I'm planning to buy an used E60 525 (4 years old, odometer about 100K KM). I've tested the car and everything seems OK.May I know how much of maintenance cost for a 4 years old E60 (eg, normal service, spare part...)? Thanks so much.

you need deep pocket

standby at least RM10K/year for maintenance

i agreed with r37720. i drive E60 and had so far spent 8k on it. another 3months to go for 1 full year. by tat time...i think the expenses will hit me with full/more then 10k.

Hi chookleng,

Would you mind to break down what you have spent? Normal service or spare part repaired or anything...

How old is yours E60 and odometer hit?

Thanks so much for your information.

10K/year for an E60??
Still consider cheaper to maintain a Perdana in Terengganu man :stupid::top:

normal service only. 2005 years with 13k odometer hit on display when the car was delivered to me. once u get the japan spec, 1st things to do is to change the 4 tyres coz of the different climate. 2nd thing to do will be fully inspection (such as oil changing, gear oil, etc.etc.) which will slap you with RM4,500 and above. just this two above mentioned already going to cost you around RM8k. if u wan to change ur navigation to msia CCC, u gotta prepare to end up spending around 15k. and one last thing i want to remind u about the active steering in E60. its easy spoilt and going to cost a big bomb for you to fix it. turn your car handle around while on the go and you will be able to hear some light sound like "tick tick tick" if ur active steering is in fault. good luck mate

haha...dude totally agree with you.

my goodness... you pay for the pleasure... of driving. Nothing is free in this world!

I thought this is a low maintenance car?.. with 25k km oil change interval, that works out to be one oil change per year and the rest of the fluid can last a life-time?

Wear and tear will be your tyres, brake pad and brake disc rotor which confirm fail to last life-time!

.. and if life-time = 160k km by BMW's definition, the E60 has another 60k km's life.. some say no matter how frequent you do oil change, it will still fail at 160k km, at least the gearbox!

If a new unit cost RM400k, after 100k km, the value should left 400x(160-100)/160)=RM150k.. agree? No?

uhhhh... I don't think E 60 is a low maintenance car... for your information, many people may able to pay the installment, but once car got problem, very little people can afford the maintenance :listen:

Thinking it back...imho..it is better to buy the 1st hand car from any BMW authorise agent here.Say you buy a recond car e60 525 2005 which cost about rm 250,000 to rm 270,000 and reserve another 10k for maintenace or wear and tear where radio system has to modified..navigator is not working ...no maintenace record...milage reliable issue compare if you buy a new car e60 523 2008..cost u about rm 340,000...6 potter (cc is the same ..only matter of 190 hp compare 218 for 525 where u can do remapping if u want) with 2 years warranty and maintenance free..everything is working and not to mention...head ache free ? Obviously 2008 car price shud be higher than 2005.

Wow..very "impressive" with the maintenance cost of an used E60. I'm not going to buy a new E60 because out of my budget.

I think it is better to buy a new E90 (325)...

What do you all guys think?

Thanks so much for your advice.

if size and space is not a concern...the e90 325 sports would be a very good choice...more nimble and fun to drive...

I read somewhere in this forum, the new E60 has push-start button. But, I've tested a few E60 and most of them do not have it! Why? It is CKD version and manufacturer year is July 2005.

the push start only available when BMW upgrade the e60 with the N52 engine starting from Sept 05. So e60 before that which is on M54 engine do not have the push start button...

What do u mean size and space? They are all 5 seater! Just like a Kancil :p ... except burn more petrol! :D

hahaha...u know wat i mean...and of course theoretically they are the same, a 5 seater... :D

i actually wanted a 325i M-Sports but when i'm on the driving seat then no one can sit behind me...

the road holding and handling of the car is just superb :top:

IMO of course... :D

I see...what is the difference between N52 and M54 engine? Higher horsepower and torque? Better fuel consumption?...

i think when people ask the cost of maintenance car it should not include:

- cost of conversion of the CCC (this is preference or accessories cos you can spend hundred of thousands on audio video in your car)
- cost of changing your tyres

i think what the newbie like me interested to know are:

- for a 4 year old e60, what are the common parts that prone to failure and need replacing. maybe shock absorbers/ steering racks/ etc

- it is understood that the e60 service interval is every 25k km. during this service what is the cost of lube, how many liter of lube is required, what other fluid need to be changed? steering fluid? differential fluid? gearbox fluid? coolant? etc and what is the cost?

- there will normally be major service in between normal service. same question as above. the total spend?

Mechanical/electronic failure due to the car being lemon...that shud not be included in the normal services cost.
