Hi guys Need some input on this area, would not know much on this and due to budget constrain and also trying to lower cost but yet improving the car. What would the mode required? The M40 is a manual while the m43 would be of a Auto. All advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

M40 and M43 has almost same power... but it's a newer engine though.

Still need to mate the M43 wire harness with the M40, and run with the M43 ECU.... M40 is running distributor while M43 is solid state coil w/o distributor..
Better to use back the M40 manual gearbox. The M43 autobox probably nearing end of life (time for overhaul)...

What would be the life time of a auto gear box, was thinking of using the auto box when ever possible, for everyday drive. What would you think, any major modification and is it worth the change?

Thanks in advance.

Lifetime of the autobox, don't know. depends on the previous owner's maintenance and driving style. Some can last more than 300,000km, some a lot less...

The gearbox length would probably be different, whether longer or shorter.. So the propeller shaft oso different lenght.. Then how about the autobox shift lever? Using an E30 lever (from another car) or from the E36? Then the pedals? Not sure if the E36 ones would fit into the E30... Anyway, these are the things u need to find out. And the final drive(rear differential) ratio oso different but probably can still use

Which show that changing the engine and leaving the standard drive in would cost much lesser.

One more do you think is worth the change if the engine set does not really cost much?

Cheers

If u can get the mechanic to do it for cheap, then it's ok.. otherwise, the labour and wiring labour charges would probably cost more than the engine... Unless your M40 has grave problem, otherwise. not worth the trouble... unless it's an M42 engine, M43 not really worth the hassle, as the labour cost would be about the same..
