M42 vs N42 ??

Whats the difference between M42 and N42? then the M series and the N series??Kinda new, need info, thanks!!

M42 was the engine used in e30 and e36. Some this engine is more than 20 over years. N42 was first used in the fscelifted e46 and also the first engine with valvetronic.

Differences? Too many to list, but Hp is pretty close!

N42B20 - 2.0 DOHC Valvetronic 16 valve used in the facelifted E46 318i, 143bhp...
