simple solution, the gearbox hasn't got a problem, once the rpm drops below a certain rpm, the alternator charging is lesser than the 14.2v hence the gearbox ecu will not get proper voltage to it, hence the 'trans fail signal' will pop up. i had it on my car when my battery was not charging properly due to the alternator. i do get it some times cos i have yet to change it...
In that case, do check why your rpm dips, air leak ?
