Hi i am driving e38. Just now my car suddenly overheated due to low coolant level. Stop immediately and as temp returned to normal i drove to nearest petrol station. I just top up coolant a week earlier thus i believe there is a leak somewhere since i have to top up around 8liters of water. Then after restart i realised there is a loss of power. It never happened beforeCan any sifus advice what is the problem (or perhaps this is the vanos issues) . Lately i also hear a whistling sound underneath (looks like from the exaust). Could it be a related issues?BTW I can any sifus advice good workshop near PJ/Subang/Damansara.Many thanksSdin

did it overheat after you topped up the coolant? did you check if any water entered the engine (head gasket gone).

No , after top up its all ok. So I think 1) 1st problem is water leak.... so far couldt locate where the leakage 2) problem no2.... this morning slightly better... but still sluggish. (garu kepala and seluk poket)

go to your mechanic asap to avoid doing any more damage to your engine bro. dont keep driving around in it.

dont take engine overheating problems lightly.

Bro, what happened? Any strains of oil in the coolant or radiator cap? Topping up 8 L is massive leakage somewhere. Avoid driving this car until you find out where the leakage. In my opinion it could be a head gasket failure.

Try calling my mechanic Albert Fang 012-2017792 But I think he could out of town now.

I thing i hv learnt is that your car should never fail you during CNY, only yesterday manage to get it repaired. Went to Bavarian Auto Works Sdn Bhd just before the damansara toll plaza as ths the only one open and some good recommendation. The boss was not around except his nephew that was in charge that day. After thorogh inspection found out the leaking water pump was the main culprit as we also found that the radiator and thermostat shown sign of leaking. Decided to replace all the faulty items. As for the lost of power...... phew it was just the crankshaft sensor failure (oh yes not gasket failure huhu)

Also check the whistling sound at the back which happened occasionally and luckily the sound came again after few minutes. Found out that the fuelpump (located under the passenger seat) is the cause and should be replaced. Since its quite late decided to KIV the replacment. Total cost of repairs are as follow:

water pump - RM 160
radiator - RM850
Thermostat (with housing) - 69
crankshaft sensor _ rm250
Labour - RM120
Coolant - RM 42
Total - RM1591

and minus Kong He Fatt Choi discount of RM 41; final total RM 1550

So the rabbit year started with digging a hole in a pocket.
