like what is important to check for? engine, gearbox, other than that? chassis?

The "newest" e30 is already 23 years old (last batch in 1991) .... U have to worry about everything ... Unless it's been restored & maintained well by the owner.

Really depends if u want one already done up (just pay the $) or if u want to start from a basic unit & restore it yourself (time and $).

You might be able to pry mine off my hands with the right price .... ;-)
