A couple of days back, while outstation in Penang, the keys for my Z4 got locked in the boot by accident. Obviously I did not have the spare key with me. But called up a locksmith with help of the hotel concierge and everything was sorted out in 30 mins, including travel and lock pick. Amazing how fast the locksmith can open the boot lock with just two simple piece of tools. Was poorer by quite a bit but at least, I did not have to get someone to send me the keys from KL.NetMaestro

then u have to take extra precaution in this. its mean to prove you tat anything you store inside ur car boot can lose / stolen within another second without you in the car vicinity since tat lock smith amazingly proven his talent to you, WEEE...:)

You are quite lucky that you don't need to get the lock replaced. My wife locked my key in my E34. It took the lock smith one hour to open and in the process the lock was damaged. Cost me a bomb to the whole locks replaced!

thats interesting.

ive left the key in the boot floor before and closed the boot and the boot lid just popped back up after closing.

i was shocked and not overly concerned as i was at home and had the spare key so i tried a few more times with the key in the boot and closed the boot and boot popped right up!

this is in an E60 525i sports though.

anyone else had this happen?

If any locksmith damages the lock while trying to pick it, he doesnt know how to do it the right way. Apparently the boot is more difficult to pick then the doors, according to him. I havent tried it but the locksmith says, if key is locked in the boot and we pick the door lock and try to use the remote boot release, it would not work. Come to think of it. he is right as you cant open the boot remotely while driving, ie door is locked.
