I know this is a chronic problem with e30, e32 and e34 headlamps, water gets into the driving lights due to poor gasket sealing, driving into a pond or over-zealous cleaning/spraying....White lines on the glass is literally washed away. The white lines are actually some sort of powdery substance that supposed to focus the light beam. My question is are the white lines really necessary (or can i do without them) and if they are important, how can i get them back. :dunno:

zaskar,

my bosch projector lites dun have them......seem ori that way.

I am still on the road, so dun think they are that critical. I cannot see how the vertical lines can converge the light beam but then again, I could be wrong. ( if you say diverge/spread the lites - I may agree....)

anyway, keep me posted.

Jarance,

Hella lights have these vertical white lines on the driving lights. I think its 'drawn on' using some powdery white substance. Zoggee was telling me sometime back that they were used to focus (i think that is what he said). Anyway if water gets into the headlamps, the powder gets washed away. I have two sets of Hella's and one is slightly washed out. I was thinking of opening it out as a smoked headlamp project so wondering if what i should do with the vertical lines.

both my headlights have no more lines but no problem with the focus, at least not significant...

I have cleaned the projector lenses and the reflectors and that help a lot.... it was much better after the cleaning...

OIC. Thanx fab, now i can go ahead with my mini project and not worry soo much about wiping off the lines.

Same here, both my headlights linings arealso gone. Don't see any significant difference.

same goes to mine etchy clean it and gone, but had to change another creck so tak shoik had both covers new with the lines but as you all say no effects thats true.

don't it have to do with light reflect too high on that part which blind people ,that's the why it slight fade and current one have "smiley" hole ?

The simley hole don't do much except for nicer look akin to angel eyes...

Have heard comments that the non-smiley ones are brighter...

i use liquid paper to paint back my lines.......

at least that's what zoggee told me to do, as he did his......or did he do it to other e30 as guinea pig.......or roast pig.........

hmmmmm.....

Fab, actually heard that smileys are brighter as they let out more light from the lense. But as i have both smiley and non-smiley, can't say i noticed the difference.

Wah teejay liquid paper also can ah, pentel or papermate, must be as thin as possible is it? And thats what zoggee told me to do too. Maybe we are guinea lemmings, following till we fall off a cliff. :yahoo: :yahoo:
