Knocking sound from steering column

Hi all sifus and friends of E46,Sent my car to workshop to find out the source of the knocking sound from my E46 steering as and when driving on gravel road ramp at the carpark.The mechanic said it's from the steering column but not so sure whether UPPER or LOWER column. Can someone advise me which one always having problem UPPER or LOWER?

can be either one. if you can live with it, just let it be. been living with mine for over 2 years oredi. hasn't gotten any worse.

It could be upper or lower.
You can check yourself by holding the steering column by hand and shake it
It's under the exhaust manifold.

i've changed my steering coupling (Lower) but the steering still goyang...so the mech said need to change to upper one which beter to change the whole steering colum...dono how much it will cost...

Ada tempat quote around RM 1000-1100, advise to change 1 set (upper&lower) save on labour cost...................or live with it pun boleh
