Understand that lot of Bimmer owner prefer the K&N air fillter. I intent to change it as well. Bt need to find out something before doing that. My ride is E34,12V,520 manual1.Others brand which more suitable for my ride?2.What the thing hv to take care if i change to it?3.Will it's help to improve the torque?4.Will it's help to improve the FC?Appreciated ! :D

you're tokking about replacement panel filter or open pod????With open pod filter, you'll lose low end torque and worse still if no heat shield... but improve high rpm revvability... And don't think it improved FC...Better go for panel replacement... if you got budget, go for Green filter... better than K&N...

Sorry Fabs, but I've got to plug BMC, made a very nice diff on my ride (panel replacement filter)!Lionel, it is JUST an air filter, don't expect too much, or any, at all!

Been using KNN panel filter for the past 3 years, well I guess its worth the $$$ spent since its washable. Performance wise, nothing much to shout bout. Al

AL ...u once commented that put K&N I wd lose torque...sure arr?? I asked fabes and kev the consensus is positive...I'm talkin about dorp in panel filter of course...open pods are fur monsters :)I drive a 6 pot auto by the way...

i have BMC on the bike, nice growl after fitment......in terms of cost, in a long run you'll benefit, as the filters are serviceable, but you need to follow strict service times, as the filter tends to clog up fastand if you do use it, be very diligent on the replacement oil or your intake will be full of black gunk after a while......i did feel a little more response on the car, 320i,( K&N open pod) and as per fabes, you will need to exclude the hot air from the intake

Any performance increase (if any at all) is very minor. If you are getting one, think of it as a savings investment of buying new BMW or OEM paper filters because the K&N is washable. But if you are not intending to keep the car for more than a few more years then its not worth the hassle.

There is actually a difference when we chg to open pod or better filters. Concept is simple....Get as much cold air into engine to improve performance & get the most effective way to extrude hot air from engine. Only thing is we don really feel the difference b'coz we DONT DRIVE OUR CARS TO THE MAX REALLY!! Try fixing a better filter & then red line in every gear. Think you will feel the difference there. if you still drive with fuel consumption in mind DONT MOD! DONT THK ABOUT POWER! Enjoy you ride & look at the fuel consumption gauge you have in your BMW.

Tend to agree with the statement.I was using open pod K&N but with no heat shield. The car pulls smoothly IF it is at nite or cool weather. But on a sunny day, sluggish like a hell ! Rough idling ...Change to BMC .. smoothhhhhh all to the redline. But no 'VTEC' roar ...Better consumption, smoother acceleration ...

535i, when u free to yam cha?????Just give me a call....

Im using K&N and i think it work best compared to other brands.
Its nice too when you drop your gear and you can hear the amount of air sucking in through the filter! sweeet!!
Open pod filter work best on manual i would say. Stay with the drop in and change the filter inside if its an auto.
Anyhow you will feel a much lighter and revvy feeling after the filter is change. But make sure it match your header and exhaust. With the amount of air sucking in make sure it has enough room for the air to move out. You will definitely feel the difference.

Well, peeeeerformance aside. Im using open pod K&N. I like the sound it makes. More growl....

Well , i dont expect much low end torque on the heavy beemr.

One more thing, i cant be sure, but i find the double vanos sounding more distinct with the open pod. But could be my imaginations.

All in personal opinions.......

six potter....welcum to the club!

as to wht BMC means...its another brand of air filter...
they hav the drop ins(cost aprox.RM300+) and their CDA(carbon dynamic airflow.made from carbon fibre.

What about Pipercross, anybody using it, been quoted RM190 for it, but it seems that you still have to replace it up to a certain km covered (can't recall how much though). Rave review in UK, and it also come with a liquid something for the filter. Difference from K&N is Pipercross is sponge not paper.
