guys..i'm in dilemma right now as my car can't receive radio as we all know as a common prob with jap-spec cars.what are the pros and cons of installing freq boosters to receive our freq range?anyone here with experience with these setup?any input is most welcomed..

You need to install but the receiving signal still now too strong. Furthermore the frequency display will not be the actual one.

even u install the booster u will only receive certain station but not all, u can convert to UK version in Jalan Ipoh, pls check with this forumer called bmwclub he can do it.

If your UDM is Jap spec 3 series ( I previously own 320i), then what you do is to

1) tURN OFF RADIO AND TURN IT ON AGAIN

2)press the symbol 'm' which is located somewhere near the radio for about 10 seconds.

Then your display will change and then you

3) press the symbol ' + or '-' until your display change to ' Area". Then press the station preset buttons 1,2,3,.... Choose OCEANIC

Since I no longer own this car, I can't remember the steps exactly. Keep trying

Hope this help, bro

how much will this cost..i presume it will be very expensive?

thing is,i just want to receive the radio freq range and dont want to spend thousands just for that.i've got tv,cd etc..basically all i need, except for the freakin' radio.

will the booster affect any electronics in the car? i don't need to have all the stations, merely some..

if thats the case just install the frequency booster will dolah, u will receive red fm, 988, 929 and lots of malays station. The booster wont effect anything. cost around 200+ plus workmanship.

ok cool..thanx bro.any place you'd recommend esp in the PJ/SJ area? shops that are used to e60s.

one more thing, how much for a TV-on-the-move job?

these are i guess 'interim' measures cuz i want an Mtech bodykit for the e60 as well..i do of course eventually intend to do up the system for DVD,iPod and also the radio thingy but that'll have to wait a while longer cuz its kinda low on the priority list.

+1...Go for it...actually, if you don't mind the "dollar & cent", ask hi to do a full CCC conversion form Jap to UK Spec...He's a good friend of mine and i can definitely guarantee it's worth the money...you can also confirm with forum member Alvin...:top:

Bro, can pm me the contact.

an update on the radio freq situation..i've installed the booster at KK Lau,nice job.the device adds 16MHz(its actually selectable between 12/16/20MHz) to the jap freq range and i now am able to receive most stations that i normally listen to,from 92.9 to 105.7

works well enuff for the outlay,a few hundred bucks for what is a trivial matter in most other cars.didn't know receiving radio can be such a pain in what is essentially the most hightech car in the market today, but i guess its a given(for having chosen a jap-spec car).

there is a downside though.. some areas where reception is less than optimal,u'll get static in the background.its something i guess i'll have to live with for the moment.

now,for TV-on-the-move..any solutions out there?is there a cost effective way to bypass the blocking when the car moves?

This can only be done to later models. Earlier ones does not have the options as stated above. Tried to have mine done [2001 E46 Jap Spec] but unable to.

Hope that clarifies/helps those wanting to 'soft-boot' their HUs.

i don't think its possible to do it thru the i-drive,which is the only interface i have to the radio.

all in all guys,it kinda sucks bigtime to have this problem in a car that costs so much..trivial but so so irritating.such a simple thing..such heartache.

i do have the ability to tune in but its marred by static every so often.
