I am having issues with my dashboard monitor. My car is a BMW E39 2002 model Japan Spec. I have attached here 3 pictures -

1/ Normal

2/ Streak running across monitor (happens quite often when I start the car and lasts for about 10 - 15 minutes before becoming normal)

3/ Screen turn blue (happens sometimes when I start the car and lasts till I turn off the ignition).

Any advise on possible cause(s) and measures to rectify, will be much appreciated. Thanks.

bro,

your navigation unit is faulty. i think yours is a MKIII. can find it on ebays.. cost around RM600-700.

it happened to my E38 and once changed .. everything is back to normal. my car suffered the same fault till i finally changed the navi unit which should come with a CD

Dear Alan, thanks for the advise. I have never used the Navi unit since its Japanese specs and not compatible to Malaysia. Anyways, I have had the car for 3 years now and this problem only came up after I changed my ECU unit I think.

Check your battery terminals, happened to me sometime ago, the terminal was a bit loose.

Nothing about the navi function. The software n display is controlled thru this unit. The one holding the nav cd. U might be able to download latest software n burn on cd to boot n flash the system.

my e38 is from uk n i never used the nav either

Hi there, the black screen is the software loaded from your navi unit which is a later version. When the navi unit is faulty (not turning on etc) the screen software was loaded from the tv tuner which was capable of driving the screen also, albeit with an older software.

So most probably its your japan navi which is giving your problem, although its hard to justify changing it to another japan unit because its no use over here. Changing the unit to a uk version wont work either unless you want to rewire the whole thing!
