vaanikam to everybodyI am thinking of getting X5. 2002 model any good or should I run away far as possible?I'm working in the legal biz.Is Mofaz a good place to source cars from? This would be my first Bmw if I bought the X5. My experience with Bmw have been through my bro-in-law's 1998 528 model. I really like his car. Power is so much better than the 523. But being a family man, X5 would be more suitable, I think.Thats all folks, have a nice day! And drive safely:burnout::top:

Hey Chandra! I just bought a new car from Mofaz about 2 weeks ago. While there is no issue with the car (touch wood!) and fortunately Daimler Chrysler across the road has provided first class service, one thing I found a bit annoying is their sales people have little knowledge and a lackadaisical attitude when it comes to explaining the specs and features of the car. They don't know crap about the car, so it's best to do your own research. I do notice the re-cond cars they bring in appear to be "better" than other places I have been to and they say this is down to their "sourcing" department. However, it's best to get your own mechanic to do a thorough check before you commit. I have a friend who bought a barely used 645i for a good price from Mofaz and he's as happy as Lennon on a bike!

Vanikam and welcome to the club.

The facelifted X5 (2003 and above) would be a better bet since it has X-drive and reliability is great.

Hope you will find the ride you looking for.

Cheers

I bought my car from Mofaz as well and the experience was hell. However, I have learned a lot from what happened. All their cars look fantastic. The sales people are useless and terrible. If you want to get a better discount, head straight to the HQ or look for the manager.

Memorise the rims, tyres and as many parts as you can because they tend to change them when you're about to drive your new car home. They hope that you wouldn't notice.

They give you three months warranty period. Within that time, check your car thoroughly in another workshop. Head back to Mofaz Service Center if there's anything wrong and they will replace the parts or fix your car.

Overall, they're alright as a whole but the salesmen are terrible.

This is really BAD! How can they change your parts without our knowledge ??? This is not ethical.

Very unethical. It's the job of the salesperson. The big boss, Mr.Wong has no knowledge of this though. Contact Mr.Wong directly if anyone faces any problem with Mofaz.

Ok.. enuf of irrelevant postings, now back to the original "topic"... we all men loss hair some point in our life and its just life! That's why owning a BMW is a good disguise hopefully attention is on the car, not on our kepala.. :p

Taken from wikipedia,

BMW xDrive is BMW's four-wheel drive system that powers the X3, X5 and 2006 and later xd and xi 3 Series and 5 Series models.
Instead of a 40-60 (front-rear) power split (which pre-millennium four-wheel drive BMW's exhibit — 325xi, 330xi, early X5) with braking applied to individual wheels via DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), xDrive provides the same power split between the front and rear axles through use of a multiplate wet clutch located in the gearbox on the output to the front Cardan shaft. This setup allows xDrive vehicles to modulate torque split front to rear. If wheel slip was detected by the ABS/DSC computer, xDrive will react, often before the driver ever knew of its intervention, to ameliorate traction and control of the vehicle. The wet clutch is applied through a high speed electric servo motor turning a cam shaped actuator disc.
xDrive is networked with the ABS and DSC systems. In the case that wheelspin or directional instability still occurs while xDrive is or has been modulating the torque split, DSC will brake independent wheels to regain traction and improve directional stability. Its intervention is transparent to the driver.

Basically X drive will provide traction to whichever axle that needs it and also acts as a form of traction control.

In BMW's X drive, power split can range from 0-100%, meaning to say in certain conditions it can be FWD or RWD. The same can't be said of other competitors.

Cheers

In short, xDrive is different than iDrive or uDrive.. :D

xDrive means its a BMW designed 4 wheel drive system that intelligently shift the power to the necessary wheel so the car is not out of control in any thinkable and unthinkable situations. Think of it as traction control independently on each of the 4 wheels and they work together to keep the car on the road and the intended path..

So what about the hair? :D

From BMW.Com,

The BMW all-wheel drive system, xDrive, ensures your BMW has the best possible traction at all times, enhancing agility and keeping you safely on track, even on fast bends.

xDrive is the permanent all-wheel drive system from BMW: under normal circumstances, it distributes driver power between the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio, and changes this figure variably when the road surface or overall driving conditions change.
Acting virtually instantaneously and a manner so subtle as to be go virtually unnoticed by the vehicle’s occupants, xDrive can direct up to 100% of drive forces to one axle. Enabling the driver to start up effortlessly even on slippery surfaces or steep hills, xDrive routes all power to the axles with the greatest traction. When parking, the system reacts to the need for high manoeuvrability at low speed by opening the clutch completely so the powertrain functions optimally.
At the first sign of understeering, drive power to the front axle is reduced. If oversteering is detected, xDrive directs more power to the front axle. Thanks to this dynamic redistribution of power, vehicle stability returns to normal even before the driver notices anything amiss.

Driving on a winding road or taking a fast bend in dynamic style is particularly enjoyable with xDrive: you feel as if your BMW is being guided along the curve. xDrive ensures that none of drive power is wasted on a loss of traction: every kilowatt of power is effectively brought to bear on the road.
xDrive is regulated by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and uses information from the latter system’s sensors to monitor road conditions. In addition, brake force courtesy of DSC is used when there is traction difference between the two sides of the vehicle and wheel spin is likely.
