Hi Sifus,I have always wondered if BMW E90 is reliable compared to other vehicles of the same category in terms of car price. I am thinking to get myself a used 320i LCI facelift. Well, aside from being more affordable to purchase this model, I prefer this model more than the latest one (the front light and the grill look cool, young, energetic ahha).Maintenance wise, do sifus here have any solid examples as how the BMW is gonna kill your wallet, any huge differences in comparison to other cars of the same class?Additional info, I am driving a Nissan Sentra. Costs me about 25 cent per km.

Welcome to the group...reliable....dont understand that word...hehe....join us for tt n well talk more about the car....my 2.5l cost me 23.455 c3nt/km....not sure cheap or not...enjoy ur stay...

:smokin: reliability? hehe... it can be with a BMW provided all due diligence is applied and done. Can't beat the reliability of a Japanese car from my own experience.

Comparing my 11 year old E39 and 20 year old civic.

Civic beats E39 in reliability.

On the other hand, E39 beats civic on driving experience.

In terms of driving experience, you cannot compare BMW with japs. Even a brand new mazda 6 cannot beat my old junk E39 in terms of power and comfort.

But BMW is a car a good accountant won't buy, if you get what I mean.

PS. My E39 goes to workshop every month. :(

..i never had any BMW but Z models. And none of them EVER failed on me. All costs i ever had were typical maintenance, and nothing more than that. I believe, reliability is directly proportional to maintenance attitude.

reliability is a relative word.... because this depends on your luck and also your driving behavior.....
but if you are planning to get an e90 lci, then at least most of the manufacturing issues with the car has been resolved...

Thanks Ecc0...you said it all. Same also applies to me...i never had any BMW but the F10! This Statement of yours is just it "reliability is directly proportional to maintenance attitude" And according to Lazzydogg "because this depends on your luck when it comes to Manufacturing issues" Its as Simple as that!:smokin:

U have to own it 1st then u know its reliable or not.....but if you are so stingy to spend money on maintenance it's either preventive or corrective....forget using bmw...i believe it is the same with other continental marque...unless u buy new la...

Agreed. Also may I add, service costs may be more than a Jap, so be prepared to fork out additional $$$.

For example, my Merc (W210 E230) consumes 6 litres of engine oil per go, compared to my ex-Harrier (2.2) at 4 liters. ATF on the Merc is 7 liters per change compared to 4 liters on the Jap.

BTW sold the Harrier and bought an E90 recently (2011 323 lci). Still keeping the merc too.

My E39 is costing $0.8-$1 / km to repair and maintain. It current mileage is 270k km. it was 255k km when I bought it.

Newer BMW should cost less to maintain and less problem at the beginning. Well, it's very difficult to give you a good answer la. Too many factors involved. Just buy and experience it. Good luck!

rule of thumb is if they car gets older more repairs need to be made and hence more trips to the workshop, but i find that the new parts then to (not 100%) also get cheaper for the older cars....

I think for the LCI model, whatever defects or problems that the car had initially was solved already.

In terms of reliability, it's very subjective.

Why is a toyota is so reliable? In my opinion, it is mainly due to the obsolete technology in most their cars.

Those cars like Prius also have plenty of recalls but not your altis, camry and etc. Some Camry sold in Malaysia is still using a 4 speed auto tranny, while BMW already used 5 speed transmission in the early 90s, and now 8 speed transmission.

aijoh don't la so blunt. obsolete to some, tried and tested to others. keke. but i sometimes envy friends who drive camry and accords. equally old cars, higher mileage, don't do sh_t about maintenance, hardly spent any time at workshop other than oil change and driving without slightest bit of worry something might go wrong whether long distances or stuck in traffic. may not be as nice to drive but heck it surely is more reliable. bmw - buy more worries. hehe.

NO. It's unreliable. Even my e90 LCI is krap. I enjoy my CRZ more than my 325. Period. Even my past Perodua cars are more reliable.

Perodua argument tak laku la. falls in same category if not below toyota in terms of why they're more reliable. keke. your CRZ might be more enjoyable but the question is got use latest technology ka? how many bijik gear and reliable or not?

thx all sifus... m ready to spend more for a nicer car. if those bills are made for typical service, or as prevention to a huge pocket leak, why not ahha... ok. wil get one soon. i am also comparing an audi tt to e90. tt looks cool too but since when it became so common on the road. sigh... no feel liao

if you girl i recommend red tt roadster. drive with top down sure look more hot than any in their e90. and the former it's not a common sight on our roads.

Personally, if you don't need the 4 doors and the boot, the Audi TT is a lot more powerful than the E90 320i LCI. It is also more fun to drive, lighter and agile. But at the sacrifice of convenience and practicality.

BMW E90 325 - 1 year old - 10 weeks in workshop, comfort access sucks after 2 repairs, got more issues
CRZ - 1 year old - FAMOUS in BMWCOM Forum!!!!!

Whahahaha ...
