I read that E46 has an internal cockpit air filter? Is that true? Cause recently bad outdoor smell is coming into the car.especially during the morning I had a bad musky smell in the car. Or could it be due to aircond filter. Or the microcarbon airfilter?huh???

Im having the same problem on me E36 as well. No idea what causes it, plan to send it to the aircond man when i get back to KL. Even motorbike exhaust fumes can get into the cockpit during traffic jam. Bleah~

Wonder if anyone can share something on this..

In my ex-E36, even though I have put the aircon in recirculating mode, the system will every now and then open the vent to allow some fresh air in. I can hear the vent opening and closing at frequent intervals. The problem is, the vents always open when I am passing a sewage treatment plant and I get assaulted with the bad smell. Asked the aircon guy once how to resolve it.... one way is to permanently seal the inlet (but not recommended).

Read somewhere it is a safety feature to prevent the air inside the car from getting stale and causing the driver to be drowsy / sleepy.

But if your aircon continuously let in fresh air even though it is in recirculating mode, then the vent mechanism could be faulty. It had happened to me before when the flap was not closing properly.

Ah, I'll try just that, switch off the recirculating mode when im in traffic jam and see if i can feel the difference. Otherwise, masuk workshop again lor..

I have similar experience with outside fume come in. Have bought the Bosch air cabin filter but no time to uninstall & replace...

Cant find a freaking Bosch cabin filter for E36 in sg/jb. Fellow bros have contacts? Sigh.Advert looks good.Wanna give it a try.

Hmmm.. ya maybe is the air cabin filter. So where is this air cabin filter located? Anyone knows?

Thanks r424 but I am more refering to where to buy the Bosch cabin filter. OEM or ori filters are easy to buy but still have no luck finding the new Bosch cabin filter. Call the Bosch HQ in sg and they say they are bringing lots of filters for Jap makes but no BMW filters at the moment.Sian ah.

chairoger,
Sorry dude, can't help you there.
I was actually responding to fast&furious.

thanks

I don't think so because it's not a carbon filter. It's just a "paper" fiber type of air filter. Outside fume still goes thru if the air flap for auto recirc is no longer air tight.

Just got the E34 micro filter replaced. And the old was installed reverse but I guess it didn't matter since it didn't look like uni-directional kind of filter.

Get the charcoal activated filter - removes most smells and just a bit more $$$. Think AB sells it for under RM200, if not mistaken.
