Instrument speedometer reaches 300,000 miles and stops

Dear Sifus,Greetings. I need your advice on my e32. The speedometer has reached 300,000 miles and stops there. What do i do to solve the problem? Which mechanic do i go to? The car is running well and fine so far. Appreciate your kind help. Thanks.

mine is the same as well. checked with other forums, only way is to change meter cluster

Wah.. you means BMW design the car to go 300,000 KM only when it can go much further.

I think it is Y2K problem..

Did you mean the speedo stop showing the speed when it's on the move?
or did u mean the odometer stopped telling u how far you've traveled??

If it's the odometer, there are a few plastic gearings which can get brittle and break over years... I have changed mine before. FYI, there are 2 brands: Motometer and VDO. both have different sets of gears..

Your mechanical odometer is still the best lah.. After 999999 Km, you are back to 000000 Km. :top:

Yes it is the odometer... it stops at 300,000 miles...

Mine is at 299910 miles now....fingers crossed it'll go beyond 300,000

This happens because our cluster meter is generation 1. Either you get generation 2 or 3 cluster meter or get another coded plug which is suited for your car, and not just any coded plug.
