i noticed that e30 brakes are not very good in terms of bite and you'd really have to step on it to stop the car effectively. is there any other way of improving the brake setup like say to an e36 system for instance? i know me old e36 325i had a very good bite..for those that are running the M50 conversions etc etc..did you guys upgrade your brakes to accomodate that extra power?

from what i have gathered and own epxeriences

1. first to go is the brake booster
2. if you have drum brakes at the rear, you need to change to disc and corresponding master cylinder
3. braided hoses all round and upgraded fluid makes a firmer feel
4. lastly there's the overhaul of the brake caliper piston seals
5. a set of aftermarket brake pads and rotor disc makes further improvements

for M50 conversions.....stay tuned.....
then again i already did 5 lugs with a some big brakes setup, for the booster, we are thinking of gettting the E32 setup, and Alvin is definitely changing the hydraulics off the car, too much pwoblems

Just upgraded brakes on my e21.

Dunno if can apply to e30. So long as the caliper mounting is about the same width, you may be able to do the same. Dunno if e30 calipers and e21 calipers are anyway similar. Still have my old ones if you want to compare mounting hole width.

What teejay suggested will definitely have impact. I did all and then did the caliper upgrade. BTW, I am using an e28 brake booster.

I have no qualms with my brakes although I have tested a few E30 with spongy brakes.

mine bites like hell.. all discs around..original bmw pads somemore.. hehehe..

yes....I am also looking to improve the bite of my brakes.....esp after sitting in a StopTECH equipped MCS....( & I have done as per TJ list - no. 3 & 5 too since no. 2 is standard )

keen to know if the E28 booster is a straight swap for an E30 unit? Please share......

TQ!

for immediate effect you can change the master cylinder, if you need more bite you can change to bigger brake servo (booster) like what Zogge did. all the other previous advice helps too.

from which model, the brake servo (booster) is recommended?
please advise.

Sorry for the slightly slightly off topic a bit. How much for a complete set of braided brake hoses? What about rear drum brake conversion to disc brake? How much? Thinking of upgrading the brake system bit by bit. Thanks for the help! :)

Seriously, braided brake hoses are only really necessary for serious competition use.Original brake hoses is good enough.Get new ones and you WILL feel the difference compared to the old hoses (at least for the e30 anyways being > 10 years oledi).

Would u happen to kno how much new e30 brake hoses cost? :)

looks like i'll have to take the e30 somewhere when i get home cause stuggart can't seem to solve the problem. also the electric fan hasn't been kicking in..
any e30 owners want to show me their workshops? ;)

C here for Pro-RS

C-here for Goodridge

Not very sure where to get Goodridge SS braided hoses - I think in costs RM450+ for a set of 4 hoses. (Generally, 4hoses - Disc/Drum; 6 hoses - All disc brakes).

BMW original brake hoses are more expensive than SS braided brake hoses. And the braided brake hoses is useful for improving the braking system not only for track or competition.

To answer u straight :

911 Zentrum : RM310 for a 6 pcs model - ie. those w rear disc. Dunno if price still valid.

If u r already changing, why not upgrade...that's my motto. So far, no complaints.
