Hi brosBeen using Turtle Ice (rm98) for 4 months. Not so impressed by it. Also used Ice Clay and Ice shampoo. I tried many microfiber cloths and am a great believer in it. Is there better results by other products?

Just my humble opinion. A wax or sealant like Turtle Ice will just be able to clean a little bit of the paintwork and then seal it in, protecting it from our harsh environment. If you're looking for something that would bring your paintwork to a glossier and shinier finish then you'll need to go for something that can also do a little bit of 'polishing'. Something like Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Polish or ColorX, 3M One Step Cleaner Wax, Optimum Poli Seal, and I'm just mentioning some of those that are available locally.

Regards.

I am getting some Meguiar from at Ace .
Or maybe at 1 Utama? I heard there is a discount there.
tomorrow

Thanks bros.

v_ice. Check out Parkson. They sometimes have sale on Meg's products. Ace is a bit pricey. While you are there get a Bosch ROB buffer also then can polish and wax kau kau....

....or you can go direct to Hypercoat - the supplier. Tell them you're a club member and you might get discounts.

Regards.

Hi Guys,

Are you guys doing the detailing yourselves? I always thought this requires some experts to ensure a professional finish.

My ride is less than a year old so the paint work is still quite new. Guess no preparation needs to be done. Can I just get the Meguiar stuff and the buffer and start buffing away? Sounds like a total novice and I am...

Regards,

Some of us here do the detailing ourselves.

Even fresh from the showroom cars need to be prepped IMO. Most dealers don't do a very good job prepping the paint and usually hide imperfections by using polishes and waxes with fillers.

If you are talking about the meguiar's g220 buffer then its a pretty good start and is easy to handle.
claying the car before polishing will also yield better results.

Hi maxxsp,

Sounds like a good idea. Any chance that there may be an opportunity to witness how you and your friends do it? I guess there are 3 advantages: cost saving, exercise for yourself and hopefully, do a much better job. I am based in PJ/Subang area.:top:

CWP, u sure you want to get started detailing your own car? Its like drug's..... first you buy some Meg's products, then you buy a Bosch ROB or G220, then its a Makita and thousands of dollars of detailing supplies.... Don't ask me how I know....

IF you want more info can check out:

Hi seech,

Looks like I really need the force and all... I guess to maintain the paint work at its tip top condition is the tough part and each time you touch up, you probably need to do an overall for the car! Is that a fair assumption? What do you suggest? Leave it to the pro? Wouldn't that cost even more in the long run?

Its an addiction. You will find yourself buying more and more products trying to perfect your paintwork.
seech is definitely right about spending in the thousands.

Depends how seriously you take detailing, for some people a pro detail once in a while is good enough but for others (like me) a lilttle mark on the car will have me getting the buff out

Meguiar's products are a good start but sooner or later you will find yourself moving to better & higher end products like Swissvax, Zaino, etc.

If you want to leave it to a 'pro' then better choose the pro properly. IMHO, Darren from Autodetailer does some fine work. There are others also but just make sure you do due diligence. I wouldn't trust my car with those chain polishing setups at shopping mall car parks etc.

Doing it yourself is cheaper but it does take a lot of time. My Makita has only been used once and I haven't washed the car in over a month..... been busy. So a detailer is not just about the result but I suppose the time as well.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the update. I called up a Meguiar outlet called Ardy's in PJ and somebody there told me that a basic(?) detailing will cost RM500 for my Z4(small size job). He thinks it will last for 1 year but if I wash the car regularly with the 'right' products and have it polished/waxed every 3 months with the 'right' products, then it may last longer. Are the cost, before buying the 'right' products, and timeline about fair? Will the 'right' products cost a bundle?

There other thing to note is if later the cost become too prohibitive and you stop the usual maintenance, will the paint work deteriorate to even worst than a normal coat before detailing?

Regards...

I've been there ... and the guy's name is andy not ardy hehehehe Overall they did an excellent job and yup andy's right to maintain the wax and polishes you have to send the car for their premium wash. plus they do touch-up, engine wash and interior cleaning as part of the package. I did it last year.
