Hi all,I just wanted to know if any of you have fitted an ICE other than BMW's original? And do you have any electrical probelms with it. I fitted an Alipne system.I normaly use the car on weekends only and have it started up during the week. However the battery lite kept comming on. I sent it to Sapura for a check and they told me that the out of the box ICE is draining the battery. They mentioned that with the original there is a safe mode which prevents any drain from the battery. I'm really puzzled....Any help??

You must have a current leak , ICE on standby mode consume very little power.

Good electrican should able to detect the leak if you're not familiar with electrical system.

Hey Iqlima,

Yup that's what the Sapura guys said.. however they said that the orginal BMW ICE has a safety feature which prevents leaks.

What is puzzling is that if the orginal is now disconnected and the new set insatlled how can there be a leak?

Hi,

I'm not sure about the feature of prevent leaks from original BMW unit. The stock unit always have special connector to suit stock amplifier and if you replace it with after market then the installer have to modify to suit stock amplifier. Thing get messy if there is after market amplifier involve.

Insulation is very important when involve many cables example like at the back of headunit. When you push head unit to fit into headunit slot, all the cables will touch each other at the back and this is where it can leak without proper insulation.Headunit body also very good ground system.
