Hi guys & gals,

My sincere greetings to all you bimmer faithfuls!

Well, my 528i is not dead yet, so the title of this post might not be that correct.
Perhaps a more suitable word is 'coma'..... Here's my story:

Bought this '97 e39 when my biz venture was doing well abt 3.5yrs ago. I keep it as an adult toy, while having a Mitsubishi N84W as my main ride.
I got it cheap coz the prev owner left it in quite a miserable cond, and i enjoyed refurbishing it and grooming it back to life.

1.5yrs into ownership, one day after fetching my son from school, i inadvertently left the key at the ON position (engine off already)... A few hours later when i came back to it, the battery had gone flat & i could no longer start the engine. I called a friend who ran a car batteries biz, but he was abroad. I tried to jump start the bimmer using my Mitsubishi, strangely it did not work.... :argh:
Unfortunately during that time, my biz was in a slump, i didn't have much cash to go buy a new batt immediately. So i was waiting for my friend to return from overseas......
Incidentally, the battery in the car key went flat too (prior to the incident described above), so i took the coin battery out from the casing, and went out to buy a new one. Alas, i didn't keep the key & casing properly, and my youngest child (2-yr-old then) came across it & played with it. When i came home, the key, casing, keychain etc were all scrambled around..... and the tiny chip was lost !!!!
Me, my wife & the other children searched hi n lo for this indispensable chip, but we just couldn't locate it in a house of 1800sqr-ft built-up-area :102:

So, it was one bad thing led to another..... And my biz plunged further. I had no extra money, and no choice but to leave it as it was.....And two years has now passed.

By God's grace & mercy, i managed to turn around my biz, and things are looking up now. So i reckon i'm ready to give my bimmer a new lease of life now.

Here's my tudu list:
- get a new key with chip
- get the transponder re-coded
- get a new battery
- replace all engine fluid (lub oil, power-steering fluid, coolant...etc)
- buy insurance, pay road tax

But i'm at a lost of how to get these done in a correct order  , issues to be cautious of, and the cost involved.
So here i seek your precious advice, suggestions, recommendations please, dear bros & sis who are more experienced!
Are the steps in the tudu list above sufficient? Did i miss anything?

Yes, please help!
To those who offer kind help, i promise to belanja you to a restaurant luncheon or dinner :)

FYI, i'm located in Johor Bahru. Cheers!

Hi Amigan_Bimmer,

First and foremost, welcome to our forum and as a matter of formality, do introduce yourself in the newbie section here... http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/newforums/index.php?/forum/101-newbies/

As you are located in JB, we do have a few very experienced e39 owners whom I believe will be pleased to provide you guidance for your to do list. You can pm (private message) Official member JFT63 and Club guest InitialM.

Based on your to do list, you'll have to get the new key+chip and car battery first. Once you've done that, then only can you re-code transponder (check out http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/newforums/index.php?/topic/37290-e39-immobiliser/ where we discussed the procedure) Is there a spare key? After doing so, you can try cranking the car and replace all the fluids etc.

BUT, since you've left it for 2 years and I presume it hasn't moved or started in that period of time, you might wanna consider towing it to the workshop straightaway to get all the fluids replaced. Not sure about the condition of the fluids engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid etc. after 2 years of NOTHING! (especially the engine oil). Other things like the gasket, oil seals will also dry up after such a long time. And finally, most worrying thing is if your engine has SEIZED.

Not to mention, you'll also have to go for a PUSPAKOM inspection. Any car roadtax which has expired for more than 1 year has to undergo inspection again and there, you have to face issues such as tinting...

Good luck in bringing your car back to life!
