Yesterday car felt very jerky, vibrating and no power. From experience, guessed it was ignition coil problems. True enough, today took to MSpeed, diagnosed with 2 coil failures. Replaced both and now OK.Ah Meng was not there, but one of his grease monkeys said better to change the other 4 coils too or they might just KO like that, being mixed with the new ones.I would have been tempted to do that except that they only had 2 coils (just ngam-ngam nice) in stock and I was in a hurry. So want to ask all the sifus, should I schedule another appointment just to change the remaining 4 coils? What is worst thing that could happen if I don't?Thanks!

what's the worse thing that could happen ....maybe you'll get back the same symptom again .... that's all and another trip to the workshop ... :)

its wise to change all.
they do hv a "life" span u know...?
i changed 1 and went home like u did.
2 days later another one kaput.
the rest u decide...
hehehe

I would agree with iceman13, if its not broken dont fix it yet. worse case your car will start jerking again, go in for another diagnosis & get it fixed. moreover these ignition coils do not come cheap.

I guess this problem would be more manageable in the 6 cylinder as compared to the fours. per time you probably have max of 2 cylinders out so still not too bad.

how much does the HT coil cost?

i guess your car is the N42 engine valvetronic type 2.0...

very common, change all.. for a peace of mind for next 100k kms...

If the worse is that other coils start to fail, then I can live with that. What I was worried about was even the new coils fail due to whatsoever reason. This is not a major job (about 20 minutes only), so can just do a quick pop by to MSpeed when problem occurs. Though if "swei" and kena all remaining 4 coils at one time, would mean I have 2 cylinders left or around 800cc which is just like Kancil :D

Looking at it from another perspective, what about any upsides about changing the whole lot? Does it mean new coils will give better performance and better fuel efficiency?

I have seen many cases when 1 coil started to fail soon the rest will follow, I have the same experience, usually within less than 2 months. What I did when 2 of my coils were acting up, I changed them with used (working) coils (FOC) and they lasted 8 months before 1 of the replaced coil and 1 ori coil failed. I have changed all 6 coils. I think if you are to replace 2 out of 4 with new coils, you may as well change all 4.

Strange thing happened when 2 of my 6 coils failed, I drove for 20km to the workshop and discovered i lost half a litre of engine oil. my engine never consume oil before that and don't consume any after the new coils.

actually it's wise to change all ignition coils... u can get them from the oem shop.. cheaper. if u want to budget, change the ignition coils urself. DIY.. i changed my own ignition coil and is running smooth, but another 4 more will need to be replaced soon..

After all the advise from you bros, went to change the remaining 4 coils today. No noticeable increase in performance though significant increase in peace of mind (maybe just psychological though :D)

By the way bro, how many km your ride has done before coil went kaput?

124,000km. But for my case, I am considered relatively low mileage so it's more the time rather than the mileage. My car 2001.

I replace all 6 coils at one go and noticed improved performance. Maybe my old coil has lost the capability to transmit optimum power.

Thanks bro, mine is approaching 120k km but is 2004 model. Need to be prepared for the worst.
