hey Guys, I m new here. I m looking at the BMW 318i (1.8 cc) models between 1996-1997 for purchase. But I am getting mixed reviews from many people. With regards to the maintenance especially. Can anyone give me some good advise as this is the first BMw i want to own. Can anyone also please advise me on the right price?TQSaathu

IN SHORT .maintainance is ok for 318i e36 , but lack of satisfaction , but 328 damm powerful but maintainance a bit high and roadtax is alot higher but satisfaction gurantee ! but 325 is not available for that year.
end of the day all depends on wht u want really. (because high road tax for 328) is onli rm 4.00 a day for the road tax ....to think about it ...

got one... year 96 model. 318i. silver color.. ac kit(front only) n other accesories..! n its a manual..

...LOL !...the price is always about the performance & aesthetic condition of any car....

...just starting the engine & listening will move the discerning buyer of a BMW vehicle....

...I have met many who have bought great lookers only to have to literally replace the engine 2 months down the road costing in excess of RM20 K...

...too many unproportionate modifications without care & maintenance by the 2nd or even the 3rd previous owners at different 'specialists' & not Auto Bavaria, as I understand, was the cause of this...

...ultimately it will be the buyer who decides, hopefully after a careful & thorough search, how much he/she would offer for the privilege of owning, driving & experienceng a very well maintained E36 UDM...

...a car sitting in a lot, especially if it's an uncovered lot, for a long period of time, needs to be viewed carefully...

...start the engine & it will tell you many things...hopefully good things if not otherwise...

kisham, a galant effort to defend your asking price, but forumers are all experienced car people, especially in 3 series matter.

Sorry la, but a 1996 E36 318 is not going to fetch 70K. For that money we can get a later, bigger E36 and even early e46. The 2nd hand market is really low price now. Even duck's 50+ is a high price because it's from a dealer. BTW, every seller's car is "very well maintained" and "purrs like a cat". No offence man, but you have to be realistic if you really want to sell your car.

...LOL !..thanks meetoo for the input...our posts are to assist those who might not be aware of certain implications...but I'll always welcome the first timer BMW owner an opportunity to savour an ultimate driving experience, at a very reasonable outlay...

...the secondhand car market in Malaysia is also full of terrible second & third hand "sharks"...

...but until then, looks like the E36 will be our classic 3rd family car...

:)

That's actually a good idea these day khisham. If you really kept it well, it's not worth selling a good car these days. You won't get the true value. The market is very much a buyer's market now. If you don't need the cash so badly, it's better to keep an old faithful as a classic, or to use when your new love is in the workshop.

hi bro, i can understand your asking price as you believe that is the what your car is worth, and to me, that's fair.

But what i don't agree with you, is that, i'm just making an assumption here based on what you said, that unless cars are serviced by Auto Bavaria, a potential buyer can expect problems.

I don't believe that to be true, and it could also lead to misleading someone new to the E36. I'm also quite certain that the majority of E36 owners in this forum have their cars taken care of by "Specialists", me included.

But of course, not all "Specialists" are made equal, same goes for AB service centres i'm sure.

btw, Correct me if i misinterpreted what you posted.

lu ingat tu certain specialist can make ur car tip top? aku hantar kat mechanic repair porsche, ferrari, meserati, volvo, merz, bent?apa... harganya nak dikatakan lebih murah daripada AB. pentingnya how much love/care u hav for ur car. siapa yang kata kreta tu mahal, jangan bising, bukan you yang nak beli. willing seller, willing buyer, kata nik.

harganya, untuk tahun 1996 to 1997, dalam linkungan 40K hingga 60K++. tapi, kena careful sikit, kalau beli daripada secondhand dealer maupun personal seller. ada yang kaki kelentong. kalau mahal tu, memanglah ada sebab sebabnya. kalau murah sangat tu pun ada sebab sebabnya, mungkin kesempitan, mungkin kreta banyak problem? there are also honest secondhand dealers and also personal seller, if ur luck is there. bought mine from secondhand dealer... till now, no problem! kalau nak beli, boleh minta tolong panggil some experience clubmembers here to test drive the car for you, tapi kena belanjalah.
