hi all bimmer, may i know how to reset ABS light except go workshop?E36 96 onward...TQ

Reset? what do you mean? if it lights up every time u start your car and refuse to go off, something is wrong with your abs, most likely the abs pump, the abs sensor hardly fails, new abs pump RM4k+++

Does it just stay on?

In my case last time, it comes on out of the blue. I'll just stop by the side of the road, restart engine and it's gone.

On my way to kelantan ,heavy rain ,skid at one of hundred over corner and ABS activated. Can feel it. After that the indicator stay on.mmmm ..stop car , stop engine and restart. Indicator off, that the first and last till now. But mine not E36

the abs light will lit up if it is activitated during braking on slippery conditions and you can feel the brake judders..it will goes off when u restart the car if every thing is normal...but when it doesnt goes off, it meand that theres a fault in the system..most likely is the abs pump, which tends to fails after 8 to 9 years...

mine 1 is i open out my steering,so the airbag light will shown.
need to give workshop to reset,so i meaning got anybody know how to reset ownself n safe money...

just go to ask them to reset it for u, it should be free, recently i just changed my cooling coil which required the airbag to be removed, so the light is on, i went to my mechanic, he uses his computer, just a few minutes then the light goes off liao, and it is free.... but mine is air bag light la...

Wang,

Now I am cunt-fused.....

Are u referring to th ABS lights or the AIRBAG lights????

If the ABS light is constantly on, there is some defect in yr ABS system, likely the ABS pump, as mentioned by dvng.

If the AIRBAG light is constantly on (as u have removed the airbag from yr steering), then u need to reset it with the modic. The DME have treated the AIRBAG as deployed once u remove it, and not recognise it unless reset by modic.

To save $$$, get yr mechanic to reset it the next time u service yr engine with new oil change, tho yr mechanic shld not charge u anything as this is avery simple and quick job.

BUT CAUTION.... yr AIRBAG will not deploy in an accident until u reset it, :beaten: :beaten: :beaten: so my advise, get it done ASAP...

Wang, what were u doing removing the airbag from the steering????

Next time, remove the battery connections 1st before removing it. Or do not disconnect the airbag, the ribbon that connects the steering to the airbag is long enuff, but take care to not to break the ribbon, which will cost u more to replace than a modic reset!!!

If the air bag light is on, it could also indicate 1) the slip ring is faulty and 2) the ribbon is broken. :)

Mine was due to a torn ribbon (which was caused by the air con mechanic when he did not re-assembled the steering correctly).

Ok...if for E36 it shud be either your sensor or the pump. If the ABS remain on or came on again after resettting...it shud be associated with ya ABS pump. Was advised specialist in ipoh that itz a common problem with E36 but u don't have to change the pump as it could be an internal problem. This guy he did his own experiment and figured out that it was some flexible wiring giving way...and he can fabricate the wiring for ya.....not sure of the cost......if ya interested...pm me...i can provide you his number.

Hi All,

I've experiece with this ABS lights, on constantly last night during my way home from cheras to shah alam. I'm scared if my brake not function. But I just drive as usual keeping in my mind maybe its because of sensor problem. Last month my check engine light goes on but its off when I restart my car. This morning, on my way to office, the light is still on and this make me scared enough to see 'his doctor'.

As mention here, if failure cause by ABS pump, it will cost around 4+k? :beaten:

Hmmm.... :dunno:
