How to check engine temperature in E60?

All of us know E60 does not come with engine/coolant/radiator temperature guage! Found this video and it appeared to be complicating which requires at least 6 steps to read a simple engine temperature!OMG, so-called "German Technology"? Last time i check my car engine with the thermal imager, the higest i get is 80 deg Celcius....

I've tried the steps, and it WORKS!!!!

However, i have to point out that it's not permanent. Once you shut off the engine, you don't get the engine temp display anymore, and you have to go through the whole process again.
