Hello BMW owners and forum members;hi, i'm new to this forum and hope to get some advice from you all. i'm from Kota Kinabalu and I'm planning to buy a e39 528i 1998 from my friend. the car with ori 18'' ac rim, ori ac body kit, ac exhaust, lower springs and it's accident free and it's a weekend car. my friend ask for 110k and i would like to get some advice from you all is it worth it to buy at this price? coz i'm planning to offer him at 95k...is it ok? most of my friends using e46 and no one own an e39 before....help me guys......

110K is seriously overpriced. 110K can get u a 2001 car.
but if he has all those goodies then its a case of willing buyer willing seller.

thanks for you all advice man....he did call me this morning and ok with the price that i offer 95k...tomorrow morning will going to arrange the loan...just want to make sure one more time is it ok with the year 98 with 95k??? what is the different between 98 and 2001? the engine and spec still the same? i never drive a europe car before so this is my first time. now i'm using a toyota unser, mr-2 turbo and honda city idsi at the moment. can you guys tell me what's the problems usually have with the e39 528i? the axle for this car is it expensive? can tell me around how much is it? i did ask the owner why he want to sell this car and the problem he say..."fuel" cost too much...so how??? i need more advice man...

i like e46 also but it seem like a little bit small for me man.......coz my size quite bigg...i'm 178 with 105kg...Oops....a little over weight liao...i did try the e46 330ci and i like it too much before i try the e39. it's too expensive for me 196k ureg 2003...

Just got my e39 1 month ago. Its a 528i yr 2000 cbu UK. I paid RM95k for it from a used car dealer. I believe 1998 528i is a single vanos. The double vanos came in yr 2000 i think..like mine. I seriously think RM95k for a 1998 528i is a bit overpriced. But then again, i don't know much about the east malaysia market. I don't suppose the m bodykits and other add ons u mentioned there can jack up the price that much . But again...i maybe wrong. Look in newspaper and trade magazines to gauge the price.
The owner is correct...fuel consumption is high. I average 30 sen per km in damansara traffic...highway is a more tolerable 25 sen. But I drove Unser LGX Auto before, so...not that bad.
I'm a first time BMW owner as well. But i think the forummers are spot on..e39 is the best bang for bucks. Just make sure u don't buy a lemon. Buy a sample with comprehensive service history...milage is secondary..cos repairs can go into thousands.

i'm so sorry to tell you that i had cancel to buy that car this evening coz things change after i saw his registration card...it's a 1996 man and it's a single vanos! not 1998! i don't know why the guy want to lie to me....i'm so sad till now...but i won't give up finding another one....wish me good luck...and you guys have any information about selling 528 please let me know...many thanks..............:top:

Wah bro glad that you spot the manufactured year before you put a deposit. Well next time when you see a bmw you like, take down the vin / chasis number and check the year of the car from here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do Learn more about the car by reading more on this forum so that you won't get conned. I wouldn't say not much different between 528i and 525i. For starters 528i uses the M52 engine while 525i uses the newer M54 engine. 528i has cable throttle while 525i drive by wire. Both has different driving experience and you gotta drive it to know which one you prefer. Horsepower wise the 528i is a little bit higher 193 compared to 170.
