Can he get into the doors???

E.g are the doors open/unlocked... if he can, then should just be able to press the boot release.. if he can't then need big screwdriver+hammer and new lock on boot...

im not there la bro.. my friend just call me and said need help. i post dis thread and give him the guy number. i'll try to ask him later

Not easy to learn how syahruln. You have to learn locksmith craft to pick car boot/doors. RM400 can't be helped also. If you know the locksmith well, he'll charge RM50 like to m-sports and me. If you don't know him, and it's emergency, and you drive a BMW, you will kena a few hundreds :(

Moral is get to know a good locksmith. You'll need him sometime for house or car.

i think the best solution is make a spare key set & keep it properly...

well... it's good to know... left my keys in the car several time (not bmw) and had to "unlock" the door mechanically with rulers, wire hangers, etc. Takes time to practice especially in the dark if you're locked outside the car at night and got no torchlight handy... But never tried the boot though :)

This is actually interesting for other reasons. Is it really that easy to open up a locked boot? Or for that matter, a locked door? I would have thought a BMW would not be that easy to open. Should we be concerned with security then?

No, it is not easy to open a locked boot or door. Even though you can unlock the door, you cannot start the car without the key for an E46. There is a security feature in the key that required the correct key with the correct coding to start the car. (So spare key cannot start car but can open door if you so unlucky to lock your key in the boot or car).

BTW, I always thought it standard practice that accessories shop or tyres shop would winded down a window whenever they work on your car.

In the case above, it easier to unlock a lock boot if the alarm is not activated and hence the dead lock is also not activated. If the deadlock is activated, even when you break the window, you still cannot open the door.

FYI, an experience locksmith will takes about 1 to 2 hours to unlock the door.

For security reason, please do NOT post any comment that might give an idea
to other on how to break into an udm.

My locksmith told me that luxury cars locks are definitely more difficult to pick. Also the boot more difficult than doors. But he's trained to open Chubb safes so what is a car lock? :)

Your concern is noted jarance, but thieves probably know all the tricks already.

jarance and meetoo,

That's a relief to know. A long while back, I had my car broken into (Wira) and I was gone for like 5 minutes only. When I came back, door was unlocked but alarm still intact. Yes, I know cannot compare Potong and Bimmer. But worry is always there. Any good locksmith would probably be able to break into any lock given time, but that's something most thieves don't have the luxury of.

Which might be worse if you think about it. So if they cannot steal our cars, they will just carjack us. A much worse experience I think.....

AFAIK locksmith have their own code of ethic i.e. they can't practice outside their "territory", they must make sure it is genuine client property etc. Some more, their movement monitored by the authority. This been told to me la.....

Problem solved. He charged RM400.
Thanx m-sports. much appreciated

You're welcome. But how come so expensive leh? Last time he charged me RM50 only but I was not driving bimmer at that time lar. He tooks only 1 minutes to unlock the door without tampering any parts and futhermore he comes with his e39 and handsome dressing like a businessman that's why impressed me. It's definately not easy to unlock bimmer door otherwise AB would not charge at RM700. I heard from friend that he has gotten list record in "BUKIT" last time therefore I think this guy must have experienced in all car models. Try to ask your friend see whether he tooks long time to open up the door?

Cheers...

I also had experience once when my SOLEX steering lock cannot unlock. First think of "gaji" the steering wheel. But when I look at the airbag I change my mind. Called LOCKSMITH. He drop by with steel drill. He dig 1 hole close to the key insertion. Put back the original key and remove out the key housing. 5mins cost me RM50 :)
