Hi All, my return to owning e39 has not been good. After done with the top overhaul, my mechanic still discovered massive build up of pressure at expansion tank this morning. With worried face, he said, it's most likely engine block cracked. No wonder he said that the header was generally still in good nick despite signs of burnt gasket due to probably minor episode of overheating. Any second opinion on this? He has to start asking around for new block and added that M54 3.0 engine kosong may be a little hard to find. But he will check again to eliminate any other causes of the pressure build up. It's a rare case that M54/52 block cracks. Any bros here can lead me to a good place/source of good M54 3.0? You can call me straight at 012-3827078. TQ

bummer...so sorry for you.but seriously....a cracked block?
maybe you shud get a used engine instead?

Hi Moots, yeah....I still can't believe it. Could my mechanic have missed something here? The pressure build up was massive...coolant practically "exploded" out of the expansion tank...sprays were up to 5 meters. I was standing at the front corner of the car (far corner away from the expansion tank) when he opened the expansion tank yesterdays morning...and I got sprays all over from my face and below. The car was left there at his workshop overnight after undergoing 1 day of test run (my mechanic drove it around all over PJ/KL area himself to do his errant). He also said he only experienced once in his 17 years of mechanic life that an M52/M54 block cracked. These are pretty hardy blocks he said but head cracks are normal. Could he overlooked the headers' cracks?

Please seek second opinion bro. Am sorry for your unpleasant experience with bmw

always welcome a 'thank' if you like my post!

Hi Anaksarawak...I'm still getting over it...really killed my moods over this weekend. Yes...I will still get 2nd opinion...thanks for the advice bro...

Bro azan, if your E39 is from UK then probably you got the nikasil problem in the M52 cylinders which is known to likely occur at 50k miles and above.

Rileks brader, just get a new engine and fine tune it and then proceed to endorsed it at puspakom. Find a good and trusted jpj runner to do it. Don't listen to ppl who say no need to endorse, bcoz when in an accident chances
are the insurance company won't compensate you.

And my advise better go for the M54 530i 231hp

Thanks you for the advise 5150...and all sifus here. Yes... I'm keeping the car in stock standard so...another M54B30 will replace the cracked one. Keeping my fingers crossed and lotsa prayers...

Hi All. Thanks for all the inputs, advices and tips. New engine in from E60...M54B30 and the car goes as sweet as candy. No more coolant pressurized. I was the 'heart' of the car indeed. Now eat Maggi already lor..while figuring out what's the source of the high-pitch sound (in my other post/thread). Will try masking tape the windshield rubber seal first as suggested by fellow harbajan. Thanks again to all sifus here.

bro azan....good on you.you will enjoy every day you drive the car.
err....no post mortem on the cracked engine block?i would be curious to know the cause.....

Hi moots...cant do much post mortem cos I just bought the car less than 2 months ago from a used car dealer. My mech said it should be no other than a series of "kow kow" overheat cos M54/52 blocks are pretty solid. TQ again bro...
