Hi guys,My bro is having the infamous 'lurch' (car jumps before it comes to a standstill) with his x5. I have done a tonne of research (as I was the one who 'racun' him to buy a BMW :p) and it seems to be quite a common problem with BMW's with ZF gearbox. The gearbox in his x5 is a 6hp26.Anyhow the following has already been done:-1)Change ATF2)Reset the gearbox3)Drive for few days, still the same4)Update the gearbox software. The newer software was suppose to solve the problem, but still the same :sleep:So finally my mechanic (actually I went to 2 different mechanics to get different opinions) said that its the solenoid in the valve body. The cost of replacing it will be around RM2.5k. However he can't guarantee that it will solve the problem, and he might need to send the valve body for servicing which will cost another RM3k. I found another gearbox specialist in Motortrader (suppose to be ZF authorised reseller) called Hi-Tech Recond Auto Parts which sells recond valve body for around RM4k. Does anyone here have any experience with them? I have had some bad experience with recond parts and am slightly concerned.

bro,I would really appreciate it if you explain what happen. Not only for me, but for other members as well.

ok, if u want to hear my grandmother story....sent my E34 for GB overhaul many yrs back, end up with a reconditioned GB, according to d boss....better, cost me $5k then, car was ok for a week, then trans prog come out, sent it back, then GB lurch/ knock a bit..at stop, sent it back......at least 6 times and all this time they just service the GB with a car jack...no problem i thought until months later when i sent my car for service else where, found out the underneath of my car all dented real bad...i.e the bloody ppl probably didn't know where is the jacking point...or they just don't bother, most of the mech there look like young understudy/ school leavers.
some more my car was having no power when accelerate, when i complain, boss gv me all sort of excuss, they wanted me to change other things... i didn't bother to sent it back eventhough still under warranty, m sick of them, my car continue to suffer until d GB fail again just after 2 years, this time I never go back to them... car is fine now, no acceleration issue after 2nd GB change....this is just my unfortunate story, m sure there r some satisfied customer, otherwise they already gulung tikar.

thanks bro, at least you can take satisfaction that they have lost a potential customer :)
Anyhow another fellow member has recommended mechinakar. Planning to also check out M-Scope.

I did my E38 ZF5HP GB overhaul at Mission Transmission located in Kepong. Many workshops send GB to these guys for overhaul. If we send directly will be cheaper. So far so good. I didn't need to send back to them for any follow up work. You may want to check them out. Contact Colin 0192644097

thanks bro, will drop by their place today :top:

went to batu caves last week to service some injectors, and coincidentally the shop owner which did the servicing is also friends with ah meng from m-scope! so I decided to meet up with him as i heard a lot of good things. Was quite impressed with his place and knowledge about gearboxes. after test driving the car he confirmed it was the valve body/mechatronics. Will be collecting the car today, so will let you guys know if its ok or not (comes with 1 year warranty so I am not really worried).

BTW you can also recreate the symptom easily by manually downshifting gears from 2 to 1 in standstill. If the car jumps then its the valve body.

took back the car today, and I am glad to report that no more jerking problems! gearshifting is really smooth now. Mscope guys really know their stuff.
