Yesterday I've installed the Pivot voltage stabiliser next to the battery (inside the rear boot) & I was trying to locate the -ve terminal for the ground wires in the engine bay. I've only found the +ve terminal which is on the left side of the engine (when I'm facing the car). Anyone knows where is the -ve terminal? I need that to install the gound wire connection.

does the installation of the stabilizer and ground cable has much impact on the performance of the car? to all i know, it will only stabilize the voltage to certain part of your car such as the lights. or just another add-on that make extra money for the accessory shops?

I'll find out once I've installed the ground wires properly. Supposedly older cars benefit more for it and there have been customer feedbacks of improved mileage. (extra 50km for full tank on a VW Tourag).

teejay, since the -ve is the car body, how does one connect the ground wires? For jap cars the -ve is connected to the car battery -ve point and the rest to the car body.

Please don't be mislead that you will get better performance when you do extra grounding. Most of the car that is more than 5 years "loose" their performance because of the increase of resistance due to rust and oxidation of the surface contact of the body and the negative cable. When the resistance increases, the battery or the charger will not be able to deliver the necessary amp to drive the electrical component.

The above is similar to a situation when you need to jump start a car. If you use a cable that is rated to < than 200 amp, chances is that you will not be able to jump start it.

The accesories shop will of course recommend you to put in extra earthing or grounding wire because they can charge you for it.

Most of the problem can be solve if the terminal where the postive and negative is cleaned with a wire brush and applied with copper based grease to prevent oxidation.

Of course, those who have added state of the art Hi-fi will need to use or added additional negative wires as these hi-fi tend to draws a lot amp.

I haven't fitted the ground wires yet or shown any results yet so at the moment I can't confirm any figures other than what the shop customer's feedback (one even had a dyno result on an evo with 7hp increase just by adding grounding+volt stabiliser but I won't believe it until I've seen the actual dyno), anyway the cost is negligible so I don't mind adding them furthermore I'm adding 2 amps (1 for component speakers 1 for subwoofer). As to your point on cleaning the wires I'll try that too, however that will only work if the tips have been oxidised, if the whole cable has been oxidised cleaning it won't work.

Here's my current consumption :- 8.3 - 8.7 km/litre

7 hp increased... This is some thing new to me... Anyway, I will reserve my judgement on it until I have seen the proof.

Anyway, if you are planning to add some amp, a voltage stablizer would help in getting better sound clarity.

If a cable is oxidised, it is better to change it completely.

try grounding from -ve terminal of batt to car body in the rear boot

then another from front of engine car body to engine, and another from the other side

if you have extra wires, there should be a main ground point somewhere in front of the car ie dashboard, wire it direct to the engine part

i concur with unker J, those japanese cars that have extra power amps and ICE setup in their cars usually get these wires as most of their grounding wires are tiny

TJ and unker J,

For e30m40, how many pcs. existing ground wire and what is the spec of the wire if i want to change it. Thanks

i saw there are quite a number of contact point for udm like the front bonet, engine, boot etc . Isnt this good eniugh for the ground effect. unlike jap car they have only a tiny contact with the engine. -_-

Hello DanPromote,
My battery are located at the rear trunk too. I just connected it to the battery terminals. And I have installed a Pivot Volt Stabilizer (PVS) without the ground wires (because I have just cleaned my E30 existing body ground not long ago) And I think the Pivot ground wire is too small. So I decide not to buy the ground wire, if I want I will make it myself.) OK, back to the topic. After I have installed the PVS, nothing improve on the performance. Just brigher lights and higher voltage by 0.3volts and voltage is more stable then before. Like on/off A/con, headlight. Well it worth the money.

Since this is not that costly, I went and bought another one for the front terminal (the terminal that normally use for jumpstart) This time performance did improved (I will say quite noticeable at all rpm range).
Improvement more than performance air filter and exhaust system (exclude header).
well just my 2cents to share with those who are planning to get one and need some feedback from the end user...

Mr. Calvin,

You mean u add another voltage stabilizer for front terminal as well ???

Do u have any photo ? :p :p

Much much Appreciate if u willing to post it up... Thanks in advance

Anyway, i've saw before AC schnitzer voltage stabilizer selling online, its that genuine part from AC ??

ACS never make this type of thing. Maybe some one put their logo on it.
i see clearer picture now... Thanks Calvin..

aiyah now i kena racun already have to buy another one! I didn't know there is a front terminal, r u coming to the showru this friday (if there is any)? If possible can you show me where it is?

I only noticed a -ve terminal at the front, but I didn't see any +ve?
