Sorry I was kidding about the Ferrari owner part :9:I've always wanted to own a BMW and have set my eyes on the E60. I've been reading all the time in this forums and finally I'm getting an ID for myself. Hopefully the folks here can help me out - I see lots of experts around :top: Thanks a lot and feel free to let me know what else is needed.

welcome welcome. you sure you want to buy a bmw ah? an F355 chaper to maintain la.. ;)

Hahaha, nice to meet you mizhan. I've always wanted a BMW so now I'm targeting the E60. I hope I'm not too late because I know most of you are long time owners of it :p I'll get the E60, drive another 2-3 years then change to something else. Ferrari toy car I got one at home, maintenance free.

Welcome bro..good luck on the search :) Hope u get a good deal for the E60 ur looking for..

Thank you so much bro sunnypuan and deep3102 :) Actually I'm wondering if it's ok to go for E60 530i M54 engine? I don't mind the lower bhp/torque produced because it can be easily increased with some re-mapping (I hope) but I'm not sure how much better or what feature does the N52 gives compared to M54 :(

Hopefully experts here can help. I don't want to buy a car then spend big bucks in the first month itself for repairs, lol.

welcome BMW_Lover...

I've got a friend who drives a E60 530i M54...and it flies even w/o remapping...let alone once remapped.

As for the N52, i'm always curious to know how do one check for the oil level in the pan when there isn't any dipstick. Except of course, you check it in the OBD (i guess) or it alarms you with a signal when it's low...Q then is, what happens when the sensor kaputs and oil's running low close to non???? HMMMM....it's where technology puts us when shite happens!

Good luck on your search bro :D

Bro even if sensor kaput if we still maintaining the 10-12k oil change interval i dont think the oil will get dried up that fast...serviceman might be able to identify by then..unless if theres leakage which we couldnt see or the oil sludge problem..

Anyway welcome to the community BMW lover..

Cheeky title there!

Anyways, welcome to the Club's forum.

On your plans for the E60, just one thing I'd like to share...

My first ride was the E46 318Ci, sufficient for me as an entry level and to 'learn the ropes' as one would say.

As time goes by and when I was more 'in tune' with my ride, I started to push the limits one notch after another...

And that was when reality kicks in... Its a 318! There's so much that she can go and no further!

Having confidence with the marquee and having past experience in its maintenance regime, I recently upgraded my ride.

Still an E46 Coupe base but now with much higher torque and top speed not forgetting with added functionality.

Cutting short, do your homework and try (subject to your affordability) to get the best model from your intended base E60.

There are lots of information scattered within this forum and others. People will try to help with your questions but do your own research too before asking.

Lastly, good luck and hope you'll be posting in our 'Showroom' thread soon... ;)

Hi Bmw_lover....

Welcome to the club... I'm one of the E60 owners and I would say overall its a good car... took me 6 months searching before I got mine as I'm particularly anal about the body works and the functionality of the car....

1. Decide if you'd prefer a recon or a local model (pre-owned) or second hand (private/premium selection)...

2. Normally, showroom condition cars or cars after service, you could barely hear the engine sound (that's based on my experience on the N52)... If it doesn't sound right, its never a good buy....

3. Mine is a 523i and I'm already VERY happy with the power I'm getting... (atleast didn't get left behind in the monthly breakfast run...hehe :p) So, I would say that the 530 should be even better.

4. My high school friend used to be the service manager for AB Ipoh and I do seek him for his guru advises...
His quotes : E60s are meant for the high roads (tekan all the way)
E60s almost seldom have electronic failures and if they do it's easily rectifiable
E60s oil changes should be every 8k and not the displayed 10k on the OBC
ALL BMWs!!! Gear oil change should be done every 40k and not the stipulated 80k (Internal Memo from
BMW)

5. As for mods, since I drive a N52 engine model, I've yet to find any, but am looking into the PB... Our brader thule is trying out something and will get back to us as soon as he gets some results.

Well, that's all I can think of for now.... Goodluck in your search... Don't hesitate to PM, would love to assist a fellow BMW enthusiast. :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, really appreciate it and I didn't know all these bimmer owners are so nice, friendly and rich too (not to forget :D)

haKKaMeE - Thanks for the welcome and nice nickname there, lol

bimmerholic - Thanks for the tips and now I know I'm on the right track :p The only problem is the RM2,200 road tax but I think it's alright as long as we have a good drive/ride. N52 is surely a better engine (magnesium) but LCI 530's are a bit out of my budget for now :( Sad ...

VKS - Thanks bro and sensors are very expensive. Even on my Jepun car now, sensors are costly.

BlackCat - Thank you for the welcome and looks like you really had some fun and good experiences with BMW's now :p Actually I'm looking at 530 Year 05 - 06 for now but if the 07 eventually gets cheaper, I really don't mind spending a bit more for the LCI version. I believe maintenance wise won't be so bad unless something is broken but I seriously don't hope my pocket will have a big hole, lol. I would like the M-Sport version and I see used/local AP ones going between RM180-RM230K.

attenbrough - Thanks bro and nice car you have there :p I never knew the N52 engine is so silent but I do know the technology used to make it is excellent. I was reading about the PB all these while and it looks like a good buy (being cheap too). I'm not sure how well it'll work versus re-mapping but I'd say more or less the same? Unfortunately the PB only works on N52 engines so if I got no money to buy N52 and end up with M54 then I can only do re-mapping. If someone is kind enough to give me an ESS Stage 2 kit for my birthday, it'll be awesome too, haha.

Bro if you're serious about getting a M54 530i, I've got a UDM owner who is looking to selll.. Its balck and it comes with 20" wheels... he bought the wheels for 11k.......:stupid:

this just in ...

1. E46 328i running on 17" and dunno what other mods.... going for 70k
2. E60 530i running on 20" also dunno what other mods.... going for 190k

now I know that the owner is kinda fussy pot for air leaks within the cockpit and takes good care of the cars (yes both his) as he always complains about expensive servicing and stuffs.... till I get more details, I will post on WTS thread..... :)

Hahaha...

Its still a modest upgrade of the same model/chassis configuration ;) but thanks for the compliment.

Am slowly 'learning the ropes' on this one too...

Now back to the topic of this thread...
