Dear all sifus, I'm thinking of rebuilding my 1986 E30 325i firewall. Any good place to recommend ard KL/Selangor? And what's the cost roughly? Appreciate you replies...thanks !!

Ask bill gates from MS?

Seriously, most firewall are DIY.. I think fabian did his own firewall for his air filter intake.

Firewall is the steel panel separating the engine bay and the cabin... not the 'wall' insulating the air intake..

Pre-facelift E30 are prone to have rust on the firewall.. especially the part just behind the battery...

simple,
get your trusted workshop to take out the engine and gearbox.
then you can see the firewall.
NOTE: there is a layer of 'foam carpet' which is cost around rm600-rm800 new, if your old one is crack during taking it out! make sure the foam carpet got stock, normally they dont keep stock for this item.
then: if got hole, do welding.... (normally ketuk mudguard people do this job) ....
then: apply anti rust.....
costing: get ready rm4000 ( include all labour charges and you might encounter some parts you want to change later )

good luck!

$800 - $ 4,000....uh...which is which lah...?

depends how extensive you want to do the restoration.. If you want to remove the engine+gearbox from the engine bay, it'll cost you few hundred bucks aledi... And once you got these 2 things out, you might as well do everything you can access in the engine...

So for 800 bucks, I'm curious to know what was done....

i just got a quotation for bodywork. 1) rebuild the chasis. i mean the "Tulang" where the low arm bush attached. 2) floor board. 3) panel board (below the door) 4) fix the rust just beside the engine mounting (without removing the engine). all for rm 2k.

can anybody advice the price ok or not?

800 for floor board - 2 units
fire wall -1 unit
Body holes - 9 units
Engine & Gear Box out top up another 600!
Next time look 4 E30,make sure is face lifted!

hahaha....
anyway i am not a mechanic.. so my costing might be out....
" costing: get ready rm4000 ( include all labour charges and you might encounter some parts you want to change later ) "
is also include taking out parts like engine and gear box and replace new foam carpet which will definitely koyak later, since the car already more than 15 years...
anyway if want to do, do it good... or else ......
for good job, estimate rm4000 in case anything you cannot foresee
good luck
