hi guys,ya, i'm new to this board to seek advice. well, i booked my car couples of months ago, but the car never comes due to AP issue (according to the dealer). but until last week the salesguy called up and said my car should be arriving around this month or the latest next month. apparently, the car is manufactured in 2005 and not 2006 since these batch are the old shipment (which i guess already sitting in port klang collecting dust and under hot sun for more than 2 months). Now, my question is shold i wait for the 2006 ones or just pick up the 2005's in view of the increasing interest rate and new NAP car pricing.i know tat a 2005 model gonna lose me some resale value when i sell it as i lose 1 yr. but the saleguy told me the difference wont be too much if i'm gonna keep the car for at least 5 yrs. is this true? any advice highly appreciated. many thanksjaker

my immediate choice would be to go for the 06 model.

the consideration should begin at the resale value as it IS what you have in mind. what is the difference of a year in resale value currently for your specific cc? note that different cc has different diffrences in price. the lower your cc, the less difference as they are more in demand.

i would pluck RM 15k maybe.

whats the rise in price for the 06 compared to the 05. when you get the figure, you make the choice.

selling the 06 is definitely a little easier than selling the 05 anytime. people are getting more and more educated and knowledgeable. anything old is not worth the risk ... especially continental cars. not like last time. any year is ok. as long as it is a mercedes ... remember the era? we can make money from selling our 2nd car.

those times are gone.

in a nutshell both has pros and cons. just look at the angle you want to view the deal from. watever it is good luck!

I would definitely get the 06 model bro but you would probably have to wait for few more months before the first 06 batch reaches us...they have tons of 2005 e90 stuck at the port which they need to clear after the AP issue is completely resolved. Patience is definitely a virtue but if you are getting a 320, you might as well consider a second hand car advertised by one of the forumers yesterday (RM23xK for a six-month old car).

Any indication from your salesman on the new price post NAP??

First of all which model? If its the 325 or 330 then do check if the so called 05 manufacturing is with the new engine wuth better performance & efficiency. There is a difference in the new vs older engine.
As for re sale, not that much dfifference lar. Registered new in 06. plus all bmw's from sept onwards are the next years model. Since sitting in the port for so long make sure the check the car thoroughly like tires and all.

Why should we buy an 05 model in 06, unless if there is some discount or so if there is no diff in the car spec definately buy a 06 model. Problem is u have wit until march or so to get the first batch of 06 models. 1 year deprec is about 7-10% so when u sell the car the buyer will look how old is the car 6 years or 5 years old, price is definately differ

2005 CBUs

Noticed that the E90 thread has died down of late, especially on the issue of buying a CKD vs the 2005 CBU.

Any updates on this? Has any forum member made the plunge for a CBU 320 or 325? Pitfalls to warn other members considering doing so like myself?

Most of the CBU e90 cars have been refurbised (re-paint, changed tires and door rubbers). These e90 cars were stuck at the port for many months and now the AP issues have been resolved. 2005 CBU e90 is now offer at RM 15,000 to RM 20,000 lower than the CKD e90 prices. CBU units will be pre-register to Tractor Malaysia and sell off to potential buyers. It means, whoever buy the car, they will be the second owner.

What I heard from a fren recently who opt for the CBU, he is facing some electrical problems. In fact the CBU is not so attractive as compared to the CKD. year of manufactured is 2005, stuck under sun & rain for almost a year, pre-register to Tractor Malaysia, don't enjoy low finance interest rate, etc...... so..... why go for CBU when there is available CKD now.

I'm an owner of CKD e90 325i and so far the car is in superb condition. No headache and problem given (touch wood & keeping my fingers crossed it will not :))

Thanks for the feedback. Am still torn between getting the 2005 CBU and 2007 CKD. The savings are great when comparing CBU to CBU but meagre when comparing CBU to CKD. One year's depreciation on the CKD is sufficent to offset the savings, let alone two whole years under the hot sun and acid rain.

Choices, choices, choices.....

well... do let me know if you are keen to buy whether a CBU or CKD, I can recommend you to my good fren who is sales advisor for BMW. PM me if you need contact :)

David,

Can you elaborate more about your friend problem with electronics on the CBU E90? I have checked and confirmed that for loan you can still get the same interest rates as per new car.

Also found out that not all cars were resprayed as they still had the protection sheet on during shipping. (Not sure what you call those sheet used covering the top surfaces of th body)

Agree that the price diff btw CBU vs CKD is only 15K but there are diff in terms of specs if you compare btw the 320 CBU v CKD. (i.e anti dazzle mirrors and front PDC are std on the CBU)

My past experience of CKD v CBU cars has always shown that CBU are still better. On top the BMW CBU are from Germany. BUT agree that the car has been in the sun for sometime now (8-9 months?) So I am a little confuse myself. I am just about to place my booking and still in a delima to choose, btw CBU v CKD and 320 v 325. Hmmmm decisions decisions. Well some say buying a car is all up to luck eh?

Any advice?

Thanks

I'm like all you guys. In 2005 when the E90 was launched, I had vowed to get a 325 in 2006 during the 2nd model year. But by mid-2006 this dilemma had cropped up - the CBUs being 2005 builds baking in PKlang, and the CKDs, being 1st year CKDs, don't have specs to my liking. I've decided to wait for the 2007 models, whether CKD or CBU, as there will definitely be changes to the lineup prior to the first facelift late 2007. There'll also be the new W204 MB C-class to compare with by mid-2007. The sports saloon game is changing rapidly.

If you can't wait, then decide on the 2005 CBU or 2006 CKD. Both are reasonably good value for money especially if you bargain hard for the CBU. Keep in mind that BMW Malaysia really need to dispose of this old stock and get their CBU line moving again. Be aware though that RHD BMWs are not necessarily made in Germany, so check the S/Ns. Be aware that the new mag alloy engine is not installed in all models. Check these details out carefully to avoid feeling disappointed later.

All said though, the E90 is a beautiful car, and in my opinion the best 3 so far. For me, worth waiting until I get the perfect one that satisfies from all angles.

My friend is having problem with the electric memory seat and the PDC. He has been sending his car back to AB to rectify this problem. Not so sure if the problem still there.

Well.... like you said, sometimes it's all depend on luck when come to buying car. You can get a 2nd hand car with no problem at all and if you are unfortunate enough, you have so much problems in a new car!

Ehhh??? I'm now aware of any enhancements between 05 and 06 E90s. What might they be?
