hi to all sifus, after one problem solve come another one.....recently my e36 328 getting hard to start the engine, day by day become worse,i dont know if my fuel pump or crank, but during starting just feel engine stuck to rev fell something 'sangkut' and starter still revving dont know what it is... fuel comsumption: normal (21cent to 25+cent/km)idle: perfectperformance: very goodweird sound: none, just aircond belt (oledi solve/ no sound now)fuel tank: never dry (always refill before fuel indicator light up)to all e36 master pls help :63: :63: :63:.

try the basic thing first.

1. Have you change your fuel filter?
2. Did you engine stalled when the engine is hot? (if stall wwhen hot, the problem could be the crankshaft sensor)
3. what is your milage? - fuel pump can last till 200,000 till 240,000 KM.

When the crankshaft sensor fail, it will also disable the fuel pump and ignition.

thanks jarance,

good news, its nothing to do with fuel pump, crank sensor, starter, fuel regulator.... actually it was my (P) and hand brake. my hand brake cable very loose and depend on (P) then my P sangkut,

i dont know what the hack relation between P and engine that made my engine stuck when starting. then in P position before i start, i will move my car forward backward little bit (because my hand brake loose) then i start it just with one crank... vroom!!,

dunno what kind of tips my mech told me, but its work...
moral of the story, tighten your hand brake ....very tight. i will repair my handbrake cable on weekend. at the moment i need push my car forward backward before start... like an idiot at parking lot :stupid:

but its workkk:rock:

Problem Solve

Aiyo, that one same as my wifey sentra. If cannot start at "Park" position, just shift to "Neutral" position to start.. There is nothing wrong with the car. You gear shift position contact could be worn out. It cost about RM180 to change it.

yeah, happen to my wifey sentra when I was using her car. when the car cannot start, my 7yrs old kid told me to put it into "neutra"l to start the car. It works. I presume the reason it works because there is an interlock that allow the car to start in "P" or "N" position for automatic gear car.. I presume the contact point for the gearshift position is slightly worn out. It will cost you about RM180 to change it for an E36.

thank you very much Jarance
i find out that my P actually make the engine stuck and cannot start, maybe the contact point for the gearshift like what you said, is out of service oledi. will change it soon, RM180 is it include labour? not bad :burnout:

No lah but labour cost relatively quite low as it involve removing the cover for the gearshift to access the contact point. If you are DIY inclined, it is a quite easy to do. Just removed the cover and some screw holding it and check the condition of the contact surface. clean with smooth sand paper. replace only when the contact point are worn out too much.

Note: you got to have torx key (allan key that look like six sided star)

If I am not mistaken, the contact switch is yellow in colour.
