Hi there,Anyone know how the meter read the fuel consumption? is there any sensor for fuel used ? Or calculated from the ECU? My E46 M43 .The digital meter show at 12.6 - 13.0 L/100km. Compare to the analog meter, it clocks depends on how I push the acceleration. Normally at low gear, I push the Pedal more , the analog meter will show maximum to 20 L/100km. After the gear change higher, the analog meter will clock down normally about 10 to 14 L/100. When the speed is constant meaning that no acceleration , The analog meter will clock below 10 L/100km. My question is, 1) how the analog meter relate to the digital meter?2) Is it different reading compare to different engine? Thanks

bro, analog meter show instant fuel consumption or the exact time moment of your FC.

Digital readout show your average FC since your last time you press the BC button.

I am not sure about e46/M3 but for e46, you can can reset the average FC when it display 10 L/100km by keep pressing the "BC" button until it display "----". Then the display will start to calculate the average FC.. Fun to see 6L/100 km when you drive on the highway. It make you feel that the car have low FC..

I read somewhere that the volume of fuel used is measured somewhere in the fuel intake and not from the fuel senders in the tank. And that divided by the distance traveled gives you the FC. There is an correction factor in the OBC to adjust the L/100 KM reading for calibration purpose.

Bro.. I am not sure la why..Seriously my E46 318i M43 can display digital fuel consumption.Anyway, my car was first model E46 Dec99.
By pressing the BC button, it displays
1) Fuel Consumption L/100km
2) Outside Temp, Celcius
3) speed km/hr ..It shows at 40++km/hr..I dont understand this. Any explaination?
4) Time
5) Distance km left (fuel)

Jarance,

Yesterday night drove my E46 from my Office , As per your instruction I press the BC button , during NKVE highway, digital meter show 6L/100km. Afterwhile acrossed small trafic jam b4 the Batu3 toll , The digital meter increase to 11.7L/100km. But then, same driving condition as before , the digital meter not decrease back to 6L/100km.. Its only decrease to 9.2L/100km..
Do i need to press the BC button again to get same as before?
Feelin very good..see 6L/100km..haha

Anyway.TQ for this infos..

Why same e46 model came with different features?

Your car is model E46 Dec99. wonder what year is IP model.

Sometime depends on the year/model/cc/CBU/CKD, you will get different variant of the E46.

I am not sure its correct or not , 2 years ago I bought my E46 from an Autobavaria Glenmarie salesman , he said mine is CBU.
I wish I can learn more about E46 model different..but need some time.

For all CKD unit there is another badge (add on) on the engine bay that indicate where the unit is being assembled. CBU dont have this add on tag badge.

Not to worry lah. There are some say that CBU are better than our local assemble car.. LOL.

You can get a lot of information under the E46 threads.

Most important is to learn what is the car that you have and take good care of it.

One thing I learn is when the alarm light start to light up, get it check ASAP.

Add on badge car be removed. More accurate way of checking is the VIN number to confirm CBU or CKD..

I check a friend's E46 N42 , also no BC. But I have read somewhere (E46fanatics.com I think) , this can be easily upgraded even DIYed.
Mine E46 M54 comes with all kind of gadgets, rain sensor, lamp washer, Bi-Xenon (with level sensor), Chromed Meter Ring, Sport Steering Wheel, Black headliner, Special leather like lizard skin, memory seat macam macam but I dislike the wood trim (so I wrapped it with 3M Di-Noc CF vinyl). And it's a CKD.

I wonder why it does not come with Glove compartment TorchLight. sigh

Ian,

err.. can clarify what is Black headliner and special leather? Picture would be appreciated. TQVM.

Jarance,

The Americans call it headliner, the interior trim of the roof. Mine is black in colour. Check out the following image.

headlining

I will try to get a picture of the leather.

Just discovered recently, the Bi-Xenon actually comes with a level sensor ( The projector lense will move up and down and adjust the level when you switch on the headlights). I read somewhere that in europe, stock installed HID must have self leveling mechanism, so those without are illegal (i think).

Forgot to mentioned the electric blind for the rear windscreen, usefull.

Hi,

mine is UK model Jan 2000 as printed on the engine compartment where the vin are.

I've check the vin with the vin checker and confirm north europe right hand drive model.

Mine don't come with auto rain sensor, mutli function steering, rear power window.
