Front pipe bocor

early last week i noticed a strange rrrrroaring sound every time i accelerate.after a few days the noise grows louder.eventually i went to an exhaust specialist and he said my front pipe gasket bocor and ask me to go hunt for another at kedai potong.to get a second opinion, i went to Ah wai, he said gasket bocor, and maybe problem with the manifold also.one says downward problem, the other says upward. haiyaaaa!its been almost 10 days now. how serious can this problem be? my fuel consumption maintains at 280km per 30 litres.but i notice a mark reduction in speed and pickup.i turn more head now, because the car is very noisy like mat rempit with a "buluh" exhaust.can there be any other serious problems? like my head gasket terbakar ke? very busy to attend to it. any ideas?

Why the specialist ask you to get one from chop shop? if it is only the gasket, i think any exhaust shop can replace it.

sometimes, this downpipe flanges or gaskets is only available at the bmw spare parts shops.. the exhaust guys dun carry it.. only one shop does and it's at sunway, shop name everco.. ask for david.

but a good exhaust specialist will be able to tell where the leak is..

Sam, the pipe sometimes 'bocor' at the edge due to hot exhaust heat.. so you might have to change a new one. what i think ah wai said, could be the exhaust manifold gasket leak, not so common, but it's a day job to fix it.

the exhaust specialist did say something about "steel-plate" (but not really steel) gasket and that he will have daunting time finding it, but can customize... something i don't fancy doing.

my car is due for servicing anyway. will get it done.

how much would it cost?

attached is a picture of the front pipe-manifold joint where the sound seems to be coming out from. the car was hoisted and a tube was use to find the source of the "bub-bub-bub" sound indicating the leak.

this flange gasket is available from BMW part dealers.. if the downpipe is crack or gone, then there is new pipes for sale at Everco, Sunway..

bro ,
i have changed the whole assy of the front pipe-manifold at
the local exhaust shop . brand new . malaysian made but
cant recall the brand . it's not that expensive . about RM300 .
had also changed the gasket ~ RM80 .
note that mine is E36 318I .
