nolah,,,, just that i focus on my job, and let the experts do their job.... after all, i am an IT professional,... whereas those guys do it for a living....

good luck on ur DIY.... be sure to foam it evenly... remember, it's a non-reversible procedure.... let me know how it goes...

I mgiht just DIY on this... heheheh.. Go buy Wurth foaming cans.....
Don't buy yet. I think my company sells an equivalent product. A 750mL can is enough to fill 34 litres of space. Will get the tech specs. & let you know soon.

Koryong, let's talk ;)

Project car may need some stiffening.........no moolah for roll cage. Can sponsor kah???? Got car available for R & D........call Zoggee to view the banana project car

here's one way, no need to wait...

go to KL Auto, tell them what u want, Desmond will buy u teh tarik while his boys work on ur car, 1-2 hours later, all done.

then, sit back, and enjoy the sensation of your chassis slowly hardening over the next coupla days...

each morning, u'll wake up and find it harder than before.... not much, but noticable.... and u'll look forward to how hard it will get the next day w eager anticipation....

the usual noises will disappear, u'll go up ramps without ur bones creaking... ur car will feel like a teenager again!

in fact, my car now is so quiet, i'm tempted to put a nice ICE system in.. god help me!!!

if u foam it urself, be careful to ensure it gets in evenly, without trapping air pockets... else the rigidity will not be even across the chassis...

enjoy!!!

Lee36328,

What about when u need to bang out some dents from the inside or rewire inside the door panels?

You do not put PU foam into the door panels. If you do, you won't be able to wind down your windows.

It is injected into side sills, a-, b- and c-pillars, subframes and any other hollow section structure.

Not an expert on dent repair but I believe the repairman/knocker would weld a piece of metal to the dented part and pull out the dent.

Sorry, have been very busy last couple of days. Is the KL Auto foam flammable ? Not that it matters, but I just want to see if mine is the same stuff.

This PU foam thingy is originally used in repair work in construction. Main attributes are actually noise and vibration insulation. It also has good heat-insulation properties but not flame-resistance .....

I will have a sample for Fabian by Monday for his DIY project ...... PATIENCE ! If it is indeed the same material, I guarantee you it willl be well-worth the wait ..... ie. $$$

You are absolutely right on one thing, industrial foam is noise, vibr and heat-insulating, but not flame resistant.....

However, that is NOT the stuff Desmond puts in your car... he has actually shown me samples of industrial foam to compare with what he uses... totally different properties....

The industrial foam is hard at the top, and flaky and crusty (like a keropok) with lots of air bubbles at the bottom.... so please be careful... cure a sample in an empty water bottle to clearly see its properties after it dries over a few days.... my humble suggestion... after all, if u're going to put it in ur car, and the procedure is IRREVERSIBLE.... gotta know how it will turn out....

Further to your DIY research, another suggestion, please do what he did... try to see whether the foam can stand up to heat, fire, and even acid... Desmond's foam is practically indestructible... he should know, after the years of research he has done....

However, would be interesting to see how your experiment turns out... do keep us posted... good luck... :eek:k:

I think KL Auto started by using Wurth product... then over the years formulated their own to reduce cost...

A fellow member planning an ICE upgrade asked me to list the benefits i've felt since foaming.... i think my response wud be useful to be listed here as well...

The improvements are almost to numerous to list them all... but i will try....

1. The chassis is stiffened
2. Because of 1, less noise and vibration are transmitted thruout the body and cabin
3. Because of 2, cabin is quieter
4. Because of 1 and 2, car HANDLES like its forged from A SOLID BLOCK OF METAL! Hardly any flex or distortion when you push it around bends...
5. Because of 4, all four tyres are implanted more firmly on the road at all times, improving your road grip!

I figure I do not need the rear x brace now, since my car is so stiff throughout...

Check with the guys who've tried my car.... and were completely blown away by the handling and the quietness.... I offer a ride to anyone whose not convinced...

I went the whole hog and got the entire package....

A pillar, B pillar, the chassis all the way from the engine bay, to underneath the cabin, to the boot... basically I foamed everything Desmond could foam... ha ha ha! Total package? Less than 2k... bargain w him... he is a fair man... and a true gentleman....

Another advantage... foaming chassis at the boot section will actually REDUCE oversteer!!! can you beat that? Ha.. ha..

What other mod at the price will give you all the benefits?

If you are into sound proofing for ICE purposes, my STRONGEST recommendation, check out Desmond at KL Auto as well.... he's got loads of soundproofing products.... he was a regular champion at ICE competitions... some of his customers spent 20-30k on ICE alone.... (not me ok? i'm broke...)

PM me if you don't have Desmond's contact

In case you are wondering, I am not on commission, nor is the guy my relative, nor am I going after his younger sister.... I am just goddamn satisfied with his products, his sincerity and his knowledge.... and I WANT ALL MEMBERS TO BENEFIT FROM THIS!!!

Hope that helps... cheers..!

By the way, the reason I am growing more and more HYSTERICAL about this is.... MY CAR IS STILL GETTING HARDER BY THE DAY!!! (It takes 2 weeks to cure completely.... so I have another week before I get the final full effect....)

Will give my final full report at the end of the two-week curing period....

Yep, I've seen that type - it's basically low grade stuff.

The one I have is much more consistent in density, with a 30-minute cure time and compression of below 10%. It doesn't flake off either unless you scrape it hard with a blade. So it's pretty rigid.

Agree with you that the process is irreversible, so if Fabian (or anyone) is still willing to try .... :D , I have the sample already. Might be good to get a Wurth sample to compare.

30 minutes cure time?

mine will cure over a period of 2 weeks in total, although u'll feel signifcant improvement after 3 days...
