The reports of the new 2.0T engine for BMWs is very exciting. See http://www.ultimatecarblog.com/bmws-2-liter-turbo-four-has-been-confirmed-for-more-models/ The N20 engine is reported to have 245 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque (258 lb of torque). Compare that with the F10 528i with a 3 liter engine with 258bhp and 310Nm. Exciting indeed. We will most likely see the 2.0T engine in the F30 328i in a couple of years time. I am therefore hoping that BMW Malaysia prices it more towards the 320d Sport which was RM255k. I am looking forward to a RM250k 2.0T BMW in a couple of years. Hopefully I dont get very dissapointed by their pricing. After all the tax on a 2.0 liter car is much lower, so they should be able to sell it at the same price with the 320d which is also turbo charged. Hopefully our currency remains strong until then.

More or less like the a4? 300k++ my guess the sub 300k would be the less power output engined f30. I guess also like how Mercedes price their c class.

Have to agree here. BMW will not cheapen their cars and reduce their profit margins will they :D

I just wish that we had a bit more customization allowed on the cars, not just the external and interior color.

I am a sales, so I don't think it will come down.(probably that's why I am a lousy salesman)

As a product strategy, It's a current 325i replacement = equivalent product, so the price should be around there, if not go up. Extra power with smaller enginer = high tech = Extra money. That's normally how they price their product, but I really hope I am wrong this time.

Nice meeting you again after such a long time. I like your signature la.

The pricing strategy nowadays is no longer based on the cubic capacity even though this is one of criterias for determining the final selling price. At one glance a 2.0L car should be a relatively cheap car but the car dealer would use accesories that comes together(leather seats, rear view camera etc) to justify the high selling price. More often than not the pricing strategy will be a function of horsepower. In other words for a same 2.0L, there is a possibility of a price difference around RM70K because of the forced induction technology.

I wrote to BMW Facebook Team as follows:

"Over the past 8 years , I have owned and enjoyed a E30 318i & E36 325i.

I am now looking forward to finally treating myself with a brand new 3 series when the F30 arrives in Malaysia next year.

I was even more exited when i read that BMW has ventured into turbo charged 2 liter petrol engines. see See
http://www.ultimatecarblog.com/bmws-...r-more-models/ .

I know it is still early days but I hope that BMW passes the benefit of the lower import duty regime of the 2 liter car to its customers when it brings in the 2.0T N20 engine into Malaysia presumbably in the form of a F30 328i in 2012.

I hope that it will be priced closer to the E90 320d Sport ie RM255k rather than the 325i Sport at RM308k.

The pricing of new cars are a stumbling block to many enthusiast like myself.

I hope that you forward this e-mail to Mr. Geoffrey Briscoe so that when the issue of pricing the F30 comes up, BMW Malaysia takes into account enthusiast like me and passes on the benefit of the lower import duty for a 2 liter car to the consumer and protect us from profiteering by the dealers.

Many thanks."

This in the reply:-

"Thank you for sharing your passion for the BMW brand with us.

The price premises for the new BMW 3 Series is still not released yet, but we do expect to see some reduction in import and excise duties, due to the lower engine capacity tax bracket of the new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.

We will certainly aim to price the car competitively within the marketplace and we appreciate your unwavering support in the future."

Well lets keep our fingers crossed at thier 2.0T pricing. If its similar to the 320d at RM255k, it would be fabulous.

RM70k higher would bring it closer to RM300-320k! Then no benefit compared to 325i. I do hope BMW prices the F30 328i it competitively and shares the tax benefit with us. If they can sell the 320d which is also a turbo unit at RM255k, I see no reason why a 2.0T petrol cant be sold for RM250k.

Anyone care to share Mr Briscoe's email address. Tq

Let me be the devil's advocate here. The biggest stumbling block is not cost, it's the competition. The Audi 2.0T Quattro and the Mercedes C250 CGI which both have about the same performance or slightly less than the 2.0 twin turbo is around RM310k or RM290k respectively. If I am Briscoe and I see my 2.0T F30 being faster and newer than the competition, pricing it lower is leaving money on the table. Audi Malaysia has a 4-year warranty while Mercedes has a 3-year warranty. BMW doesn't even care to match the competition in warranties, you think they'd be selling a higher performing car cheaper? In short, I can almost guarantee that the F30 328i with the 2.0T will be priced at least at the same level as the 325i sport today.

The thing is there will most likely be a lower tuned 2.0T or even smaller engines. BMW has a lot of lower end cars to sell including the 1er and cheaper 3er. I'm sure there will be a 200hp/250Nm turbo which will end up in the RM255k 320i which will match the performance of the Merc C200 CGI so from a users' point of view you're still getting an upgrade and the base 320i won't be left in the dust by the C200 CGI or A4 1.8T. But still there's just not enough competition in the auto industry in Malaysia and BMW is sitting back and relaxing knowing that people will continue to buy no matter what they do.

I guess ur rigt Gameover.

Anyway Passat CC 2.0T sells for RM243k. 197hp 280Nm. Note that its CBU like A4 Quattro.

The Passat CC in UK sells just about 1000pounds less than a 320d. So if a 320d can be priced at RM255k, then BMW should actually be able to price its 2.0T at about RM250-260k. Now as Gameover stated, we need competition to make it happen!

A little side-tracking guys......The 520d coming next week is priced at 350K++...the CKD 523i is priced at RM383,800.....which is about right if you take the 21K difference between the 320d and 323i.
But still the 320d is a marvel to drive...still doesn't cease to amaze me everytime I take it out.....I wonder what else is there to motoring that's as fun and as thrifty (800km for a full tank!) as it!

Obviously the 335d lah :p

True gameover but....after paying the hefty roadtax...it won't be so thrifty anymore.....and BMW Malaysia probably won't bring it in so it'll be the grey importers with grey warranties (if any)....

F10 520d pricing

The F10 520d pricing is interesting.

I hope when BMW Malaysia bring in the new 2.0T petrol engine to Msia ( which most probably be in the form of a F10 528i ) it will be priced new the 520d ie RM333k, as the tax structure for the 2.0d should be the same for the 2.0T.

Similarly when BMW Msia brings in the F30 328i (after it is launched), I hope that its pricing is nearer to the 320d at RM255k rather the 325's RM308k.

For a very long time, we have been paying absurd prices for our cars and BMW Msia has now the opportunity to allow more of us to enjoy this spectacular brand.

Aggresive pricing can also kill off the competition from grey importers and increase sales..

Couldn't agree more with you, gamerover. Only competition will bring the price down. Why would you want to sell cheaper while you could sell higher? The ultimate mission of sales, marketing, technology is how to sell the same thing at higher price = better profit for the company. That's why company invest in better facility, resources in R&D and technology, sales & marketing.

Of course I would love to see BMW sell it cheaper, but a properly run company which think aobut profitability, most likely wouldn't do that...

Well, I do hope I am wrong. Cheers.
