The FIA is really to blame for what happened. Good that this happened and get them into the firing spotlight.

Their suggestion to have teams just change tyres many times and take the penalty does not take in regard driver safety. Even with multiple tyre changes, the tyre is not safe in turn 13 on the oval.

heard 7 teams pull out of the race. MJ and barrycello got the 1 & 2 position..

I think it good to bring back the tyres change without any penalty.

hahahahaha what a f##cked up race ...

watched for like 20 mins ..then slept offf...

damn ....fia
:D

The FIA should reintroduce tyre change. There is a missing element to the sport as spectators really love the action during pit stops.

1. Michael Schumacher Germany Ferrari-Ferrari 73 laps 01:29:43.181
2. Rubens Barrichello Brazil Ferrari-Ferrari +1.5
3. Tiago Monteiro Portugal Jordan-Toyota +1 lap
4. Narain Karthikeyan India Jordan-Toyota +1 lap
5. Christijan Albers Holland Minardi-Cosworth +2 laps
6. Patrick Friesacher Austria Minardi-Cosworth +2 laps

Watched the first lap and went back to sleep...

Wonder will there be a 2006 US F1?? looking at the dejected looks from the spectators, even if there's a race, there won't many many in the grandstand.

The proposals by the Michellin shod team to the FIA was flatly rejected... Its yet another predictable reaction by the FIA who always favor decisions towards Ferrari... Some find this hard to believe but just keep watching their decision making process in difficult situations and you'll get the picture heh.

Wonder if that happen in Malaysia ... what will the fans do ? Burn the Sepang circuit ? I know I willingly to supply gas/fuel for that matter ... Lets burn the circuit!

I watch F1 till finish ... Very2 sad race. Pathetic! Alex Yoong looks like OMG! I should drive for Minardi so I can get to the podium too ... Ok maybe he isnt thinking about that ... Its just I'm very - very disappointed with the race.

After that F1 I switch to NTV7 .. and then Brazil lost to Mexico 0 - 1 ... WHAT ? What happen to the world today ?

Monteiro was so damn excited to finish in 3rd place hehehe

I think the biggest blame is to Michelin for not doin their job to provide a safe tire...they hv been in the business for a long time and should know what their responsibility is

Even tho FIA said no to the chicane, I think they should hv still gone out and do tire changes during the race...at least give the spectators some kinda race.

I think those teams would still the jordans and minardis even with a tire change.

Of coz FIA is to blame too for introducing the tire rule in the first place.

Went to sleep after the 5th lap. Same bloody 6 cars going round & round. Looks like we will have 1 less race next year. Good thing though don't have to keep awake late into the morning.

IMHO... Michelin is to blame because thet did not prepare a tyre strong enough for the gp.

FIA made the rule of no tyre change at the end of last year and bridgestone has since suffered to balance traction and durability (hence ferrari's poor performance) but michelin has been more daring and made grippy tyres that barely made it till the end (imola and one more race i forgot where).

I agree a compromise could have been reached.

Here's what FIA had to say.. "As explained in our earlier letter, your teams have the choice of running more slowly in turn 12/13, running a tyre not used in qualifying (which would attract a penalty) or repeatedly changing a tyre (subject to valid safety reasons)"

Now they could have still put on a show by using the new tyres that would have been brought in from France and suffer penalties (maybe exclusion from points, they didn't score points anyway today) But there would have been a show. Instead they decided to "boycott" the race. Yeeesh! Shame on you michelin! :(

Politics rears its ugly head.

Bernie must be getting nervous. This will further flame the movement of the separatists - all other cars against Ferrari and Bernie... here's a good example of what F1 would look like if Bernie continues to take care of only Ferrari... :D

Best part was watching Tiago-Jordan gushing like an excited school boy at the post-race conference... "I don't know how it happened, but I'm really excited to be here...' :D :D

Its not realistic to recommend teams run more slowly on turns 12/13 in a racing situation. If drivers exceed the speed and try their luck and have a tyre burst and die in the high speed curve Michellin certainly don't want to take the blame, hence they wanted it enforced via a chichane before the turns.

Changing tyre repeatedly also does not guarantee that tyres will not deflate which was the main concern Michellin had. Most teams wanted to race despite taking the penalty but even with that safety cannot be assured.

There was no other tyre option available which was deemed safe enough for the Michellin teams to run during the race AFAIK.

i think to blame anybody else other than michelin and its teams is ridiculous. the situation is simple - michelin screwed up, it wanted the rules to be changed, FIA said no, their teams thus couldn't race, bridgestone didn't screw up, its teams can race, they raced and won the race. Pure and simple. No need to make it complicated. Only people who are biased against Ferrari want to politicise this screw up from Michelin.. Lastly, i think Stoddard is a major hypocrite of the highest order..

lots of finger pointing now aledi.

But to keep the sport alive, they should have considered the chicane, at least the race can still run without disappointing the fans. Note how dejected the fans at the race.

Yes no doubt Michellin screwed up. However if it was Bridgestone and Ferrari who was requesting for the chichane, the decision by the FIA may have been different. Just like traction control.. When Ferrari was implicated, FIA approved it mid season instead of clamping down on them.

As expected all teams agreed on the chichane before the straight except for Ferrari... I hope they loose the championship. Its in the sprit of the sport and safety. I am sure Ferrari is happy with their win LOL...

F1 farce could spell the end of the US Grand Prix

Officials of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, hallowed ground for US motor racing, were fuming Sunday after 14 of 20 cars pulled out of the US Formula One Grand Prix.

"Monumentally disappointed," said IMS president Joie Chitwood, who said he and Speedway chief executive Tony George were shocked when the seven teams provided with Michelin tyres pulled out after the warm-up lap.

"I can tell you this, we feel as victimized as the fans do in what they witnessed today," Joie said.

Particularly infuriating to circuit officials, whose events include the famed Indianapolis 500, was the fact that they had no input as to how the week's events unfolded once a practice crash alerted Michelin to the fact they had a problem.

Asked if the speedway would have been prepared to install the temporary chicane requested by Michelin and their teams in time for the race start, Joie said they were never even asked.

"That decision was out of our control," he said. "We were not privy to that."

Instead, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) rejected the request, which had the support of nine of Formula One's ten teams.

Ferrari, suffering no problems with their Bridgestone tyres, declined to back the plan, and Michelin advised their teams not to race because they couldn't guarantee the safety of the tyres.

"We were aware that Michelin had submitted a letter to the FIA last night around 10pm," Chitwood said. "This morning there were rumors that something was going to occur. We were not aware of what was going to happen on the grid today."

Now left with thousands of disgruntled fans to deal with, Chitwood said IMS "will be seriously looking at our position on the response we give in the next couple of days as to what's appropriate for us to do."

That will include deciding not only whether to compensate fans, but also whether to seek financial redress themselves.

Chitwood said it was still too soon to talk of severing ties with Formula One, but he hinted that the speedway would want more say in future events.

"We'll be evaluating our position on what's going to happen in the future," he said.
