Hello all!I'm driving a '99 328i. The engine is vibrating to the extent it shakes the car - it happens at any RPM. Acceleration is very bad. Could it be the ignition coil? A mechanic said if you want to change the ignition coil for this car, you have to change all six coils? Anybody had the same experience? Do share please. Cheers~!

If it's so bad, I think it's misfiring. Search for more info. here. U will get a better picture. Dat's what I did.

If I am not mistaken u can change 1 only but provided the same type. if urs is 99, I believe there should be changed before. I think's it Bosch now. Have to let our expert in this forum to help you.

Yes it is misfiring. Do you know the possible causes for misfiring to happen?

Oh it only happen sometimes. Not all the time. That's the problem because when I brought it to the workshop yesterday it was not vibrating and computer says nothing wrong.

Good thinking, but unfortunately I donno. The ori bremi coil just tend to give up pretty fast, I heard Bosch is better & more lasting. Dat's what I did. BMW oso change to Bosch from Bremi from facelift version.

Normally electrical stuff is either the part quality or the whole system design... Not my field... sorry can't help.

However, my e46 though facelifted but still bremi, not tally with the info. I read on internet... Which AB oso donno how to answer my question. My guess is BMW is clearing old stock & start changing from developed countries, so boleh land obviously has lowest priority...

Engine vibrating at at RPM is due to misfiring. Misfiring can be cause by the following problem.

1. Spark plug worn out.
2. Fuel injector choked
3. Ignition coil malfunction.
4. insulation breakdown in the HT connector to spark plug
5. Loose connection to the spark plug

To check the and isolate the problem, do the following:-
1. Remove cover and access the spark plug and the HT cable.
2. Start engine.
3. Remove connector mark "7" from the 1st spark plug.
4. Check whether there is any change in engine vibration.
5. do step 3 until find the port that did not have any changes.

Note: If there is no change in the rpm or vibration, that is the one that is faulty. Once, you identify the port that is faulty, open it up and check from there.

Spark plug and ignition coil. It is individual.
