Hi there, i have a problem that needs some opinions.:(My car stuck at high RPM after driving for sometime (half hour or more). It happens occasionally. When it happens, the car would continue to go at the same speed even when i fully release the accelerator. When i stop the car (not the engine) and shift to N, the RPM shoots up to 2000 or even 3000.:( I suspect this is a typical symptom of some component malfunction, maybe the O2 sensor, MAF sensor ? or what else?Anybody has similar experience don't mind sharing the experience?Thank you

i have been reading the forum alot and meeting different mechanic, but i never heard of such problem with E46. have u consulted any mechanic and what did they say? could it be the accelerator cable jammed? i happen to me once when the gas pedal is so hard until u totally cant step on the gas to get the car moving, it just jammed for a second or two. i change the accelerator cable after advice by mechanic and its so smooth to step on now & never jammed again. it cost only RM 110.

Strangely enough, try checking to see if the carpet mat isn't jamming itself against the accelerator...

which model?
If E36 and earlier models, it could just be the accelerator cable.

thanks for the response, guys.
it is a E46.
I have played with the pedal, it appears to be okay.

Forgot to mention that each time this problem occurs, i just stop the car, stop the engine and restart the engine and everything is back to normal.

if im not mistaken, pre-FL E46's are using traditional accelerator cable and only E46-FL is using drive-by-wife?

if its pre-2002, it could be the accelerator cable.

if its post-2002, its definitely electronic. best to see a reputable mech and if in gear for an automatic car, shouldnt the car surge forward if the RPM rises as if its being throttled?

or is it just mere hunting where the rpm goes up and down abit and the car sort of sputters? that could be tuning or your fuel mixture.
