no wonder the ASIA became asshess

SO you finally admit that you replace the whole unit..i.e. pump and motor.

The pump and motor are an integral unit.

Why? You want? I am still keeping it but it is not working anymore.

The pump failed after it clocked 120,000 KM.

Could not find a replacement or original pump when it failed as it during the weekend. So went to junkshop and found another brand pump of similar size. Retrofit it and it have worked fine for 2 years now without any problem.

This remind me to change it back to original. Forgot about it totally.

my pump was still running, the old pump also with me, it was running pump before i replace the system.
how many time you change your pump? since you got your bimmer?

This is 12th year of owning a E36. The pump failed me when the mileage is 120,000 KM and that was 2 years ago.

One time only. This is my second pump and it is not original. Would like to revert back to original.

Would you like to donate your working pump to me. BTW, what was your mileage when you upgrade to performance pump.

If your pump have clocked more than 100K KM, you can keep it as I think based on Statistic, the average mean failure rate is about that usage.

this is normal in KL. in japan people stay as far as 200 km away to work daily in tokyo. then again, they have a fantastic public transport system.

oh geeezzzz!!...why am i talking to an idiot???!

Jarance, thanks for the help and the extra mile on the diagram, I will get the car check soon as the car is in Melaka with my wife. Will need to get her feedback if there's any problem on the way back to work if it still re-occurs.

Thanks mate, drove the car from M'ka to KL today on extreme condition, jam and rainy, so far so good, I'll send the car this friday for checks.

Guys, I know what happened the other day when my engine shut down after I overtook the Proton Wira.
It's the AFM problem, sticky vane I guess. When I overtook the Wira, I floored the accelarator, the vane must have opened, got stuck and failed to close back properly.

Will relate my recent incident in this thread:-

My car is a E36 318i (M43 engine). Was driving back home just now and was behind a really slow P. Wira. I overtook the Wira and took the left bend a bit aggressive. Suddenly, the oil pressure light came on, followed by the battery light and the engine died off. Then had no choice but to stop aside, turned off headlamps and restart the car.

First crank, the engine cranked but couldn't start. Second crank, also the same. I think it was either the third or forth crank then only the engine could start. Thereafter, drove back home.

The question is, what could have went wrong just now?
1) ECU problem?
2) Alternator problem?
3) Battery problem?

I have no idea, no time to check now, maybe will send in for a check-up soon together with oil change service. Anyone faced such situation before? Your advice please.

Change new batery...
believe me.
