Dear sifu,My E30 engine will go off whenever I accelarate, let go, press on clutch to change gear and turn the steering at the same time, took it to mech and immediately asked to change throttle body. Can it be any other cause? do not want the mech to do a try an error thingy. Any advise is highly appreciated. At the mean time, can I also ask the fuel comsumption for a M40B18 too, mine is giving something like 280km for a full tank of about RM90 on shell super, kind of high isn't it?

Your FC is very high.

Could be the AFM or vacuum leak. Most likely vacuum leak.

Thanks Jarance for you input, FC high, that actually what I thought, when I refer to the ex-owner service receipt, he actually changed the fuel pump 2 year ago to an E36 ones, can this be a problem?? if it is vacuum leak, how can I do the check. If it is correct, is it then just changing the hose?? Please forgive my ignorance, my tech knowlegde is next to Zero.

I dont think changing a fuel pump to E36 will increase the FC. Most likely the problem could be due to leaking fuel at the clip of the fuel hose. I know that the E36 is infamous for leaking fuel at the fuel pump which is located under the passenger seat.

Normally, it is quite easy to check. From the throttle body, check all the rubber hose for sign of oil leak or rubber being very soft or loose it elasticity. There are some rubber hose connecting from the AFM to throttle body. If I am not mistaken, there is another hose connecting from the throttle body to the engine compartment.

my old m40b18 engine could give me 460km to a full tank...

what is the problem is either your icv clogged, dirty, faulty or the rubber seal around it gone. common problem for the b18..

regards.

I had a similar symptom last time with my M40B18 E30 when my AFM had a sticky valve, so maybe you can check that too in addition to the ICV.

I'm getting about 450km from full tank to red warning light on mine.

Wow, all your FC mentioned is something double of mine.

Update, taken out the backseat and the fuel pump looks very clean and no evidence of fuel leak. Also taken out the throttle body and the valve is in perfect working condition. AFM looks good too but do not know how to check leakage. Aiyo, don't know what is the cause. Will take to my mech to follow his recomendation to change the throttle body and see how it goes.
Many thanks for all you guys help, truly appreciate it. Cheers!

Sorry for the late update, car was done a while back but have not gotten the receipt yet, mech is too busy with their work I think. Went there to lepak twice after the repair and no payment done. I have just left my car there again last night for short shifter change.
To answer Jarance question,
The rpm was always steady at 700 rpm. Anyway, the engine die when clucthing problem has been resolve, they clean the icv, change the hose and the head of the t.body ( the black color unit ). The Fc seem to be better but have not fully tested. Just filled 71 buck of petrol to full and shall look at the KM traveled in the next refill. So far, after 50+km done and the neddle still stays at full within the fuel gauge meter.
