Hi Sifus,Good day to all, i am have come across this problem whereby my electrical fan has stopped working.I checked with my regular AC shop the pressure was gauge was showing 280psi but my fan not kicking in.So far air con is still cold only takes time during a hot day to get chill feeling if traffic is at stand still position once moving its chill.I have checked with my workshop they said its has to be the fan motor and relay. The time taken to replace around 2 to 3 hours. Estimated cost RM 1.8k My question is can this problem caused due to AC gas pressure or my cooling system?

bro,
the last time my fan quit on me,the system pressurised till the overpressure valve (on the compressor) activated and let all the refrigerant out.in my case,me being cheap,i took the fan out and sent it to the elect shop to have it serviced.it turned out that the fan was just dirty and gummed up inside.paid rm70 for the electtrical sifu's time and refitted the fan, recharged the gas and all is well again.this happened about 4-5 months ago...can't remember.....

but mine's a '97.later cars have got different type of fan fitted....more complex.so don't know if it can be overhauled.good luck

Are u guys talking about auxiliary fan? The fan mounted behind the grill right? Wah, thats quite s bomb to me..

Plenty at the chop shop. Single vanos with 4 wires more expensive probably around RM450 while the double vanos with 3 wires are cheaper at around RM300

Wa....bloody fan cost so much ler...

Bro Siva , have you settled it , or you are still living with it ? My E60 have the same symptom like ur car , but others review is either magnetic clutch of the air con compressor or a kinda of switch on the compressor , and niether of them are cheap . I also pening now . :(

Thanks guys for all the advice suggestion well i have to sort it by this coming weekend.

I will update you guys on the issue.

Cheers,

Problem solved Electrical fan failure

Hi, there i had to change my Aux fan as the workshop confirmed it. Siemens brand cost me RM 1,750 now aircon super cold at low speed but the noise from the fan like jet plane.

I didn't want to take the risk scared that the A/C gas become too hot may damage other parts.

Cheers

I am going to check mine today....thnx for the updates bro

very easy to test the aux fan, just supply 12v power to it directly, if it spins, then the fan is ok. Could also be your compressor. The aux fan should kick in when you turn your aircon on. If it doesn't, try to press the accelerator lightly and see if the aux fan turns or not. if it does, then probably compressor problem as the aux fan & compressor work hand in hand.

mistake here. . . U can't test d aux fan by supply power directly,it will damaged d aux fan. . .

Btw. . . For those with faulty aux, its a good chance to do d electric fan conversion straight. . . .

Lionel,
The aux fan is already an electric fan. Do you mean to say convert the clutch fan into an electric fan as well ? Is this a reliable setup and is there any shop selling the electric fan together with a proper shroud which can totally replace the clutch fan ?
Regards

its a simple and reliable conversion. . . Just get an oem e46 valvetronic electric fan. . . If ur car is e46,just plug n play. . .the socket is same as aux fan. . . U just remove n aux fan n clutch fan one d electric fan installed. . For others model like e39. . . Facelif model sharing d same socket bit NOT for d prefacelife. . . So need to do some wiring. . .

Hi guys, can we remove the clutch fan and fit an electronic fan is this possible??????? As my E39 is 2003 model.
After i replaced my Aux fan really hear the fan spining at high speed noisy when AC is on.

Cheers,

i saw the mechanic testing it this way. he only did it for like a second. fortunately my aux fan is still working. any other safer way to test it then? i know that you could also turn the fan speed to the max and the aux fan should run. but in my case, it was intermittent and i didn't want to spend RM1.5k for a new aux fan unless absolutely certain it was the fan.
