Been told recently that my 2004 Jap Spec ECU software needs to be updated (8 modules to be exact). Have always been concerned when it comes to such things....like will it have negative effects afterwards???. :42: Anyone updated theirs????

I'm also gonna be collecting my 2004 Jap-spec E60 soon, so this is scary. Someone please help ease our concerns (or confirm the worst)?

First of all, just wanted to correct the terms used...it's not an ECU update, but a PROGMAN update via SSS...(i assumed, since you're talking about modules being updated)...Why are you updating? are you getting errors@faults? (e.g.-active steering, airbag etc....)

well, to answer your question, since your car's a jap spec, you're facing a high risk of frying your CCC...(from my experience of observing progman updates to a jap spec, confirm your CCC will go "kapuuut"...) it's not compatible with PROGMAN via SSS for EU/MYS spec...

from what i've seen through experience, the only PROGMAN update that went well was version 22.x...but, if you're planning to update via SSS to the latest version (ver 28.x), i can say that 70% chances that you'll have negative results... you might be able to update@troubleshoot all your modules error, but your CCC will definately fry...

Anyhow, it's up to you...i'm just giving you my advise..."Don't repair what's not broken"... i can bet that they're telling you that the dealer/workshop won't be responsible for any screw-ups, right?

r37720 pls tell me more...don't mind paying so long there's a 'work' around it. I want my 'eyebrow' back. That was how it all came about. Asked them to check why no 'eyebrow'....then was told need updates. My version is probably the 1st issue...don't exactly know. Read in the net, some with eyebrow problem got theirs fixed with updates, some lost theirs...hhhhhhhhmmm. Different cars seems to react differently. Anyway love the updated i-drive interface..kinda cool. Sorry for rambling on and on...back to matters at hand. Really appreciate it r37720 if you could point me in the right direction with this one.:63:

Btw guys...will changing the CCC to the EU/MYS version overcome this problem????. Read somewhere on the net that you need to upgrade to the latest CIP version before any retrofit is possible..is it a catch 22 situation (at least for the JAP Spec e60)

the update software is not for us e60 user's to obtain, but the workshop...even though you can get the software update, it's not loadable to your car without SSS...are you planning to get a SSS machine? :stupid: it'll cost at least rm100k for it, excluding the software... anyway, where did you get this info on the selling of progman update softwares?

bmw_wmn58, the question now is where or at which workshop is such a software (compatible with Jap Spec e60) available for us to get progman updates????:63:

I was told that to install the interface device I needed to add the AUX function to the i-Drive Entertainment menu. And for that I need ver 25 at least. That was the reason dude suggested upgrade for mine. Is it worth doing? Guy did not mention risk of frying the CCC. Apparently he did it many times already.

hey, if the dude said that he can do it...then, carry on with the update...but i bet you that he won't guarantee you that if anything happens to your CCC, he'll replace it...

anyway, he's telling you the truth that you have to update your progman version to enable aux/ mp3 capability/etc... you'll also get the new ui look with ver.25 and above, it's going to look silverish and not brownish like your current version you're using now with extra functions especially on the nav menu...

So, my advise is if you're willing to take the risk, then go for it...but, it's gonna be a high risk coz if your CCC fries, it'll cost you RM7k-8k for it to get replaced, including the risk of another coding on the new CCC you got/bought...

Just my 2 cent...

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the CCC contain of? Cuz he quoted me RM20K to get the full CCC conversion (i.e. to get the DVD HU and M'sian radio). Or is that because the HU is priced separately?

System he is recommending costs about RM7K, with the DVD changer and i-Drive interface. So if I can just change the CCC for about RM7K also, and it includes everything (DVD HU, M'sian radio) then I might as well go for that

1) CCC is the module that controls all the stuff showed on your monitor which stands for 'Central Communication Computer'...what you get is only the swap from a Jap CCC (which has a CD slot and a useless MD slot...) to a fully functional UK/MYS CCC (CD and DVD Drive)...this will cost you RM7-8K...

2) As for the DVD changer and Video Interface Converter, that is another thing...This will cost you around +/- RM5K...the guy was recommending you to update Progman to enable your audio aux so that you won't feel disappointed with the sound quality of your added/modded 'DVD Movie' capability that he's recommending you to spend on...without audio aux retrofit (which can only be done via Progman update), you'll have to use an FM Receiver/Modulator...it'll work, but i guarantee that you won't be satisfied with what you've spent on...

Think about it for yourself...Besides, it's your pocket we're talking about...

So means with a CCC upgrade, I will still get to play DVD right? That's the main purpose. If so, then I might as well just go for the upgrade. Does it play on the move though?

Just found out that the CCC DVD is only for audio, not video. So still would require the 3rd party DVD video changer

the main purpose of the dvd drive is for the Nav DVD disc, which is supposed to be left in the slot all the time (or else, when you go to Nav menu, it'll always ask you to insert nav disc)...but, it can also play audio DVD's...on top of that, if you enable MP3 capability via Progman Update, it can play up to 700 songs in a single DVD/ 100 songs in a single CD...

it's cool man...:top:

No, it's not meant for DVD video's...it's for the nav disc...you don't usually use this slot...you actually have the other CD slot and the 6 disc CDC...you'll still need a video interface/ ACM Module and a DVD Changer...

Jap spec has the SatNav DVD slot in the boot. Any chance I can convert this to play DVDs?

No, it's a useless part that's stuck on your car...
(it's conected@linked in the MOST ring of the car)

Dear all,

Wanting to check whether there is any thread on PDC ie whether if d computer picture shows green colour, is there any sound at the front and also at the back?

anyway, came across this thread and would like to share my experience.

1. if your software doesn't have d Audio Aux, you will have to upgrade your software. My audio installer sent my car to kepong to do it and cost less than rm2k. Without audio aux, I was told that you cannot fix anything.

2. by having audio aux, then only you can install an equipment called "something 222" (can't remember the name). this xxx 222 thingy allows interface to be made with d computer program inside d car. if remember correctly, cost about rm2k+.

3. with this xxx 222 thingy, then you can install GPS, DVD and/or IPOD. Got 3 items that you can install.

4. to play dvd, a dvd changer have to be installed. The GPS navigation at d boot of d car can only play (if I remember correctly as was informed by my audio installer) NTSC format of DVD disc, and not PAL format as we use in Msia. so, can consider that useless as rightly pointed out by bmw_wmn58.

5. so far, after doing d software update, DVD is working well...car seems to run smoother and THANK GOD...no frying of my computer chip...and yes, bmw_wmn58 is rite...colour is slightly silverish..

6. oh yes, d xxx 222 thingy also allows all other radio frequencies to be received by d car... not only up to 90 hz...But, only problem as I found out is it is not clear when reception is not good.

my guy have installed a booster but still not good. hv sent my car to have it fixed again and let's see what happens next...

hope the above info helps...

cheers...
